30th May, I've never managed to get my lad into biking but I got him out on this socially distanced ride and he loved it.

July 12th, return leg of Peddars Way, an idyllic little scene at the ford. Managing Peddars and back put the stupid idea into my head that I could do the SDW in a day...

29th July, an early start,3am on the SDW, a little later things got lighter and beautifully surreal.

Just been out for a pootle around and was near home. The sunset was amazing.

What sums up your biking Summer?

Haha! Saw this thread the other day and thought it would end up being quite heavily commented on!

I'm crap at posting pics here, but this summer (in fact, right throughout Spring) I've got into a habit of getting up and out riding by 5/5.30 am a couple of times a week. Last week was a belter ...

I've genuinely been too busy riding to take photos 😎🚴‍♂️🌄
Over 90 rides since the beginning of May, and 3200km cycled. Nearly all MTB too.

All rides are good rides, but some rides are better than others.

Lots of rides with the boy including 40 miles off road over two days and one epic 50km in a day (not bad for a 5.5year old)
And lots of monster miles solo trips
Summer of long rides for me

Sums up how I spent lockdown sniffing out some new trails within a few miles of home...and reminds me I should be more grateful to have this on my doorstep, even now the weather has turned a bit shit!

I've been to Hamsterley once, in the pissing rain.
I've been to Grenoside once, in the pissing rain.

That's it since France in August last year. Without an Alps trip to look forward to I just wasnt bothered. Only my Mrs has stopped me from selling my bike.

Good thread idea. I’m lucky to live near my local trails. With the superb weather coinciding with lockdown, I’ve never ridden so much in my entire life. Almost makes up for not getting to the alps this year. Or Bikepark Wales. Both were on the calendar.

Will find some pics tomorrow. But my pics are always crap.

I loved riding on my own in lockdown, but it was nice to get back out with the gang (Marsden Moor)

Not necessarily summing up all the riding, but this was as close to perfect as it gets. Weather awesome, little one just learnt how to ride, we head off out on the local bridleways, have a picnic. This is what I will remember of lock down. It was one day, but it will stick in the mind 😄

Initially I wasn't going to post. Crap knees, fubared hip, missing the buzz of riding with mates. No Easter trip to Spain with the boys, no Alps trip in the summer. Fitness shot to hell.

But hey- I live in Wales where the riding is great, so get your act together man. During the really hot dry spell I got a ride in with a mate from Carmarthen and I think he and I were both good for each other. It pi55ed down.

I enjoyed myself, despite the discomfort. Mrs A then booked a week in Peebles. Glentress, Ae and Innerleithen are a lot of fun 🙂 I managed to get myself up and down Gypsy Glen- what a horrorshow that climb is. The forest roads are fine (as forest roads go) but the moor was horrible. Really, really horrible. Nasty- make it go away Mummy.

Which then showed me that I can still ride (and have fun), so off to the Forest of Dean for a few days, for a blast at Pedal a Bike Away and all the other stuff at Cannop. Found loads of other trails all around the forest too which me, she and Max the dog all enjoyed.

So, in summary, no pics but I've got my mojo back.

(Thank goodness for naproxen, paracetamol and codeine).

Local solo spins upto the moor. Nothing exiting TBH, But lots of really 'nice' riding early doors when the weather was good, most were still in bed and work was shutdown.

(More Spring/Summer TBH)

Generally, 2020 cycling has been one downer after another for me, including my road bike freehub dying on me part way through a visit to see family in early July and preventing me from tackling Road To Hell.

But during above trip to Prestatyn, my sis let me use her Carrera Crossfire 2 ~16Kg beast for the last few days, enabling me to climb Gwaenysgor without putting a foot down... Just!

Thankfully the latest setback, getting a suddenly erupting ~5cm sphere abscess lanced in late July, has healed enough to start interval training again in preparation for our caravan hol that isn't far from Draycott and Cheddar.

The lockdown phase was all local riding, linking up local lanes and paths in 25km dawn loops before going to work, usually topping out at the local monument.

I actually really enjoyed this riding more than later in the summer, when I just kept my head down and worked lots of overtime while the Great British Public totally lost its sh!t over how to behave sensibly in the outdoors. Trips were confined to sneaky overnight bivis in quiet areas, both on the bike and on foot.

I'm now emerging from hiding following the end of Silly Season, to fit in a couple of longer trips before we get shut down again...

Near the flat I have on the coast about 50km south of Alicante:
torrevieja

It's been a fairly normal summer for riding here, out with my mate in the hills around here, and then a couple of weeks at the flat on the coast riding on alternate days (the other day would be a quick run).

And healing thoughts, @singlespeedstu!

I have not done much MTBing this summer for a variety of reasons and have no pics from the little I have done. However the highlight of my biking summer has been the two week tour around Kintyre, Cowal and the Clyde coast islands. Our focus was on finding roads with character to ride and searching out neolithic remains in which we had great success. It was also a trial run for a many months long tour next year.
