Hi all,

Looking at moving from Leeds to the Colne valley - so Slaithwaite, Marsden, Meltham etc, with Holmfirth etc also pretty close by. Just wondering how the riding is over there. I've done a couple of rides from Marsden out towards the reservoirs then pack down the Packhorse, but not explored at all.

By the sounds of it, there's quite a lot to go at, but Im a little concerned that it's mainly bridleway/XC type stuff. Much prefer steeper, techier stuff - not necessarily DH all day long (physics aside) but definitely prefer the more challenging end of the spectrum. I ride in Hebden Bridge and Ilkley moor a fair bit, along with Stainburn and plenty of Peaks stuff. Just wondering how it compares round this way? Plenty of woodsy stuff to go at? Fully prepared to be a bit naughty (whilst being well-mannered and respectful, of course!)

Any help greatly appreciated!

Yup loads. Possibly not as much as Calderdale but once you know your way around... 😉

I’m in Holmfirth but ride in Meltham and Marsden loads and there’s a few Marsden residents on here. Ping me when you move and I’ll be happy to show you around. Hopefully it’ll have dried out a bit by then...

Whereabouts in the Colne Valley are you moving to or is that not decided yet? Again I'd echo the comment that there's not as much as Calderdale or quite as techy but still plenty to go at. The trick is finding the good stuff and then piecing it together to make a good ride. I ride Calderdale regularly but my mates from there always like to come over to ride my stuff in the Colne Valley. Again its a great location with riding from the door but also so many options a short drive away. I live in Golcar and loved the first lockdown rediscovering what I could ride from my door. Lots of fun descents over this side and Marsden, Meltham, Honley all within easy reach.

Cheers all - knew there'd be stuff hiding somewhere! I'm looking mainly at Slaithwaite and Marsden due to train and working in Leeds. Sounds like I'll be in the middle of some action.
