You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Entries are are now being encouraged for the 13th annual Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, taking place this year on Sunday 8th May 2016 at 9.00am.
The FULL course is a challenging one (as you'd expect) and consists of approx. 30 miles of local paths, tracks, bridleways and lanes around the picturesque Colne Valley area of Huddersfield - regularly featured on TV as settings for Jericho, Last Of The Summer Wine and Where The Heart Is. We also now have an optional SHORTER course OF 20 miles for chubbers, the elderly and/or infirm, and the terminally inept.
* We also now welcome FULLY LEGAL, REGULATED eBikes on both routes too *
The cost of entry is £17 pre-booked (entry forms available at www.cvmbc.co.uk ) and £22 on the day - although we do encourage pre-booking as it greatly assists the organisation of the event.
All participants will receive a free commemorative T-Shirt and certificate upon completion. The course will be fully marshalled throughout and will have 4 refreshment stops at designated points. There will also be a back-up vehicle available for anyone who wishes to (or is forced to!!) retire early.
Bacon Butties will be on sale beforehand at a nominal £1.00 each, but apart from these EVERYTHING ELSE refreshment wise (soup, bread, bananas, flap-jack, biscuits, coffee, tea etc etc) is FREE. Yes FREE. There is also a brilliant little pub - The Walkers Arms - situated on site, so those that wish to can partake of a pint (or two) if so desired.
So, to sum it up - it's a 30 mile (or 20 mile) challenging MTB ride, fully marshalled, fully 'catered' and absolutely FANTASTIC VALUE, with a pub on site to finish the day off as well. You won't find a better day out in this area on the 8th May. Come and give it a go - you've nothing to lose and we're absolutely certain that you'll be well looked after and have a great time.
If you've entered before, then the chances are you'll have already received an entry form in the post - as I spent most of my spare time at work last Friday franking and posting hundreds of the buggers!
*bump*
Is the long course the full Mary Towny loop.
Daleman, no it's a fair way away from the MTL, none of the CVMBC is on the Pennine Bridleway. It's a cracking ride though. 😀
Damn! Thought it might have been the Colne valley near Colchester. Might have been interested 🙂
It's a great ride- well worth a drive over for.
Looks fantastic... See you there
Did this a couple of years ago. Was good fun. Plenty of big ups and downs (mainly xc) on and off road. Great landscape to pedal around.
Sounds interesting
I might be up for this. I didn't know there was 30 miles of tracks in Kirklees 😉
I'll be there again, barring accidents. Definitely a good day out.
Can anyone link me to any recent videos of the trails or similar trails in the area? I'm interested but from watching the 2014 video, I'm not sure if it's for me.
Interesting, I'm off that day.

Mustn't drink beer Saturday
Should I, shouldn't I, should I, shouldn't I...
I'm too fat/pathetic/infirm/lazy to enter, so where is a good place to go and watch whilst nursing a hangover?
Preferably somewhere to lie down whilst the earth spins
A top event. Well run. Wish I was up to it these days.
Course you are Simon - you don't have to go eyeballs-out to enjoy the ride!
Online entry still open all day today!
Online entry CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT.
You can still enter on the day if you like - we never turn anyone away. If you arrive in time then you're riding!
Really wanted to ride this as just up the road from me.
Sadly off to planet-x to get my shock fixed.
Have a blast, some great riding in the valley and looks like great weather to boot.
New boy doing it this year, looking forward to it.
Class event as per usual!
Very well organised event, well signed and plenty of marshals at junctions.
Pub landlord could've done with some help though, people were queuing out of the door!
I may be slighty sunburnt 😳
Marshalled this today and am a little sunburnt despite bathing in Factor 50.
I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the riders whose obvious enjoyment made it great to be involved in.
See you all next year.
Great event Sanityassassin - many thanks for the organisation. Blazing hot on the trails.
I'd just like to echo dangerousbeans' sentiments above, and thank all of you who took part today for your support. Again over 300 entered the event and the feedback has already been really positive. Hopefully everyone had a great day on some blisteringly dry trails and you'll be back next year for more of the same. Thanks again.
Brilliant event, first time I've 'raced', definitely back next year for it and I think it's spurred me on to do other races now.
cracking event, well organised and a great atmosphere.
Top event again. Big thanks to all the marshals who gave their time up to help out.
Yep, agree with all the comments above. You guys know how to organise an event. 11 years since I did my last CVMBC, couldn't remember it being so tough! I think age and fitness have taken its toll...about 30 mins slower this time....but thoroughly enjoyed it.....well done to all!!
A fantastic day out, I just couldn't believe how the locals turned out in their droves to cheer everybody on throughout the route. The bacon butties and beer afterwards felt very well earned, look forward to it again next year. Thanks guys !
