So having only started biking back in Nov, I managed to come off last weekend and break my collarbone. So basically thats summer out of the window, however I wanted to try and maintain some fitness and being a noob I am thinking turbo trainer. My bike(canyon spevtral 2018) has 27.5x2.6 tyres which clearly are not going to work. So whats the best advice on a trainer and tyre? Do I just buy a spare wheel and stick a slick on it? Proably looking at 200quid max to get a set up working, so any experience or advice which be superb.
£100 on a 2nd hand trainer + £100 on a cheap 2nd hand roadie and you'll be good to go. Save your decent bike for the trails when you're ready
I bust my collarbone last summer and used the turbo to keep some semblance of fitness going.
trainer with the ability to do Virtual Power at least, cheap road bike would maybe be more comfy and let you get the speed up with some resistance
Pair that with Sufferfest/Trainerroad for some structured workouts which do make a big difference, probably depends on the collarbone as to how you can sit on the bike too as to what bar type works best
Rollers? 😀
Cheap wheel, cassette, trainer, tyre & inner tube. Then what Mike said.
Good luck with the collarbone, had mine done with AC joint yesterday.
Rollers, far too easy...

Liking the idea the idea of a cheap road bike and trainer. Looks like a da yon ebay and gumtree. Something like tracx booster?
I'm in an identical situation but 3 weeks ahead of you!
I already had a road bike, was going to use a spare cheap tyre but a mate lent me a turbo tyre instead.
Bought a second hand Cyclops turbo off FB Marketplace. You can only adjust resistance at the back wheel before you get on the bike, so I just set it at it's maximum, which turns out isn't crazy hard anyway.
Got a speed sensor for my Garmin Edge and just train to speed, obviously means experimenting with what speeds relate to what efforts, Hasn't taken long to get a rough idea of what I can sustain for 30 seconds/1 minute/5 minutes etc.
So far have been doing 4x4minute 85% intervals with 4 minutes in between, or 5x30sec 95% intervals (4 sets with 5 minutes between sets) or a GCN video workout off youtube.
Has been great so far, full on rubber legs and soaked in sweat when I step off. Don't see the point in a fancy trainer unless you're really prone to boredom, are already super fit, or genuinely think you'll keep up the training once healed.
I've got a Minoura trainer that you're welcome to have for £30 think it's the b60
Looks like I need to find a cheapo bike thats in walking distance of my house then. Will take a wander to the LBS and set up some ebay alerts. Never ridden a road bike before. PM'd you on the trainer.
