Just noticed today some paint from the coil rubbed onto the shock body. Only done it since I put a softer spring on. Is this a bad thing and what does it mean?

I’ve had some coil rub on shocks I’ve had. Never proved to be an issue.

Obvs- if it’s grinding away, then that’s not good, but a small amount of fun has not been an issue for me.

Yes, it's an ohlins shock and matching coil and it is the smooth cover thing that the paint has rubbed on.
