[Closed] Coil Pike Service - tapping noise

I had a tapping noise when compressing the forks, which turned out to be the spring bowing out and tapping on the inside of the lower leg - seems a common problem, caused by the small rubber boot which sits on the spring slipping down.

The boot seemed a bit stretched and wouldn't stay in place, so I replaced it with a fairly tight fitting inner tube (about 28c), along most of the length of the spring. Does anyone know if inner tube rubber is likely to degrade when in fork oil?

Cheers

If it's a butyl tube I think it might degrade
