We thought we'd have a change and have a trail centre weekend so CyB on Sat and Llandegla on Sunday. Having never been to CyB before I'm looking for suggestions as to which trails give the most bang for our buck?

We should have at least 5 hours of daylight to play with. I don't fancy the Beast its sounds like a slog so which Black, which Red and is the Blue one of these really fun new ones?

I would either do the MBR trail twice or the MBR and the Fox. It's called something else welsh but it's a picture of a fox. I would say the Fox then the MBR but if you get tired and CBA to do the second one it's much better that you'd ridden the MBR.

You're right the beast, like most trail centre "GO YONDER YOUNG RIDER" trails typically just links two parts of an already existing trail with a FOGB doubletrack / fire-road loop. Yay. Thanks. Kielder is another one guilty of this.

MBR and Cyflym Coch are the best ones in my opinion or you could do the beast and you can cut out the fairly pointless fireroad climb after the cafe halfway

i think its point 118 on the map for the beast just cut through to 124 its after the big road climb after the cafe

Depends on your legs, but Beast isn't all that long if you cut out the fireroad loop as above, maybe 17/18 miles. You could do that, have a spot of lunch, then do Tawr or MBR again.

If you do the Beast trail you can cut the crap round the hill for the sake of it bit out , ride past the cafe and when you come to the fork in the trail that sends you to the right go straight up the climb instead , you'll come to the decent on your left . Its a decent climb but it cuts all the boring fire road out .

There's two trails you can do that cover the majority (MBR and Dragon's Back maybe?) but then that's pretty much the same as doing The Beast. So just do The Beast (and cut out the North East fireroad loop if you want).

I'd Do the beast but cut out Pink heffer/big doug etc by skipping through the Forrest road cutting from post 79/117 and then doing the shortcut to the addams family.. best ride in the park IMHO and cuts out most of the crap

Agree with that, but....

You can always tag on Pink H after adams family on the way back to the trail head.

What Makkag and Spacey said. Gets the best bits of the forest in with the least wasted miles on fireroads. Easily done too.

I'd do the Beast with the fire road slog taken out, takes in the best of all bits of the trails. If you get time as it should only take about 3hours then head back to cafe for cake then over other side of the road to do Tarw Du..

Adams family is THE best bit of trail centre single track I've ever ridden I whoop and holler every time I ride it! especially Lurch!

I'd have to agree, although my favourite part is Uncle Fester. So much so that I normally do UF twice.

My normal CyB route is the MBR loop as far as the bottom of False teeth - skip Bugsy and do Uncle Fester instead by carrying on a couple of hundred metres past the start of Bugsy - left at the end of UF to climb up towards Pink Heifer but branch left on the unmarked fireroad to climb up to the T-junction, then right to join The Beast on the road climb just before the shortcut - shortcut up the road then 2nd right to climb up to the start of Gomez - full Adams Family - back up the climb on the left (this time taking the waymarked right branch) to do Pink Heifer and the rest of the MBR trail.

I'll often branch off of Pink Heifer to do Big Doug, then turn right and follow the road / fireroad back to rejoin at the bottom of Pink Heifer, but if you're going to do that then you may as well just do The Beast with the shortcut - I only do it if I feel like doing a bit more but don't fancy a full loop of Tarw Du.

We tend to cut across at post 75 to rejoin at 132 and then drop back onto the proper route at the end of uncle fester. Yes you do it twice but it does miss out some fire road before the climb to pink heffer

I'd start with MBR and then do the Tarw Du. As others have said though climb up to do the Adams family descents after false teeth section on MBR and you've pretty much got it all covered.

I'm sure the fox trail is covered mostly in the MBR route anyway isn't it?

My typical mix up is like most on mbr but instead of turning right for false teeth I carry on by and go up the steady fire road climb to the left and make my way to the top of Adams family then round Big dug and back up to the top and down the OLD pink heiffer đŸ˜‰

Thanks folks, great route advice as usual. We took MBR to the bottom of False Teeth, hopped over to Uncle Fester, short cut to the top of Adams Family, etc and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Its a nice mix of flat out fast and rocky trails.
We didn't have enough daylight to cross the road so we just blasted round the Minotaur.

Highlight of the weekend though was the oompah band in the Alpine style shack behind the Stables in Betsw, truly awesome

Me and the missus might have seen you on Saturday đŸ™‚

Our first time there too. We ended up following a big group of guys as I think one of them was guiding them all around.

Hmm, Most of it is marked I'd say. There was some confusing bits, but we were following someone around a more non orthodox route.

Russeyh, I picked the bones out of the info above. Printed the maps for the MBR and Beast.

We followed the MBR route to the end of False Teeth. This puts you on a fireroad. Go past the start of Bugsy to find Uncle Fester which is the last section of Adams Family. This is fast and flowy.
At the end turn left up the hill and leave the beast at post 80 then rejoin the beast at post 117. Leave it again at post 118 and carry on climbing up to go find Gomez.
You are now back on track and have missed the big fireroad loop.

We were glad we had the map although if you study the route between the end of UF and the start of Gomez and keep a note of the post numbers you will probably be ok. You are basically climbing back up all the way.

We didn't try Pink Heifer on the way back. Our route worked out at 20km, sadly we didn't have enough light left to go try Tarw Du.

We did Degla on the way back to Brighouse but two of the black sections were closed. I don't know enough about the place to know if that mattered..

Goddamn that place is busy!

It's a good 2.5 hours drive for me (handy when you're 10 mins away and realise you've forgot your wallet..).

Going to wait for the light to return and go back prepared with a map of some sort đŸ™‚

I tend to start at coed y brenin by using the blue bermy section, then up the short steep tarmac to Dream Tome, and then on to the blue again across to what would normally be the last Beast fire road climb. On the way back in after the bridge follow the blue instead of the last beast climb and when in the car park go up past Go Ape to get to Beginning of the End. With any variations of the above in the middle. Quite easy to mix and match at coed y brenin.

@russyh - as above, it's pretty easy to work out if you have the trail maps, but II might be able to get a pass out for Saturday if you fancy a guide (email in profile)

Thanks guys, we had a great time did MBR then the fox trail. MBR was great, really enjoyed it the Fox (whatever it’s called) was pretty boring, think we will be back for a couple of days when it starts to get a bit warmer. I came a proper cropper on Uncle Fester...not sure what happened but going full tilt ove the bars. Lucky to get up, ribs are a bit of a mess breathing and sleeping is tricky at the moment.

It was wet from the night before when we went and although we were soggy and gritty I don't remember any problems.

Russyh, was it a couple of corners in? Two of my buddies got sideways on an early left handed, I sailed through. 2nd time through nobody had an issue đŸ˜€

No unfortunately not, it was as the trail opened out a long very fast straight section out of a slight corner. I was pressing on somewhat and ran out of track and talent, random rock as knocked bars out of my hand I fell forward then exited front of stage....I was flat out at the time so very lucky to talk away. Bit spaced out for a few minutes and I suspect I may have cracked a rib. Bit embarrassed by it all really it was such a silly mistake
