You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Need some info on this event. I did the dyfi for the first time this year and found some of the descents a tad tricky, I assume it will be wet at this time of year and therefore more challenging? Is there camping and entertainment like the dyfi?
CYB's descents are easier, they're still great fun,but don't go over slippy as **** slate all the time,a few of the man made trails are used too.The climbs are a tad harder though
As far as I know, there's no camping for it
I've done both. No camping or entertainment for the Coed Y Brenin one, and it's harder. It's aimed a little more at the racers than the weekend warriors so it's longer and has more climbing. However there is a short option and there are plenty of opportunities to bail on the longer one. The descents are fine, mostly on the Coed Y Brenin trails, although there is one pretty sketchy descent off a ridge on a tiny sliver of muddy singletrack which clings to the side of a rather steep hillside, a crash the wrong way on that and you'll be cartwheeling down the hill for some time.
In short, if you got through the Dyfi, you'll be fine on the Coed Y Brenin, especially on the descents. Be prepared to suffer more though.
Nothing as big downhill to scare you at CyB. It is long and wiggly like a trail centre. If you can pedal the distance you'll be fine
Don't let the rocks scare you, the bit that might catch you out is hitting some of the off camber berm thingies at the top that can be jumped at speed. Fairly easy to lose your front wheel, however, like everything at CyB, you can pootle down. No big **** off drops or gap jumps, stay relaxed, look ahead and you'll roll down everything. CyB isn't that bad in the wet as the rock seems to give a decent amount of grip in the wet, in fact, I prefer riding it in the wet. I love the smells and sliding around a little.
Have a great time, the old Coed-Y-Brenin (the red bull run etc with Dayfdd and Sian running the cafe) is where me and my brother learnt to ride aged 5 to 7. It set my brother up to become a fairly successful youth and junior downhiller, lot's of fond memories.
So basically a couple of kids used to be able to ride it, so don't worry! 😛
