Me and a mate are heading up to North Wales for a spontaneous trip next week. We like the idea of 1.5 days at CyB and and other 1.5 days somewhere in the region

Any recommendations for basic camping with showers? Riding distance from CyB not essential but would be cool

Stayed here loads of times. Basic site, friendly owners, amazing views, riding distance to CyB.

Graig Wen is on the other side of the estuary.
Nice place to stay.

Add Torrent Walk to the list. It's just outside Dolgellau but a lovely place to relax.

I'll second Cae Gwyn - easy ride to/from CYB.

We stayed here, once, quite a few years ago. It was nice, very handy for CyB https://caegwynfarm.co.uk/

Edit. Beaten to it.

Was at Torrent Walk last year. Great site facilities and close enough to ride to and from CdB. We found some great road riding too.

Cae gwyn for closeness to CYB, but a drive to pub.

Another recommendation for Graig Wen. Possibly the nicest camp site I’ve stayed at, the secluded pitches are great but even the standard ones are good. Great to have fire pits and a truly stunning setting. Little ride to CYB but not too bad.

I lived in the b&b for nearly two years at Cae Gwyn! Brilliant spot, highly recommended.

Cae Gwyn is decent and only 5/10 mins into CyB.

Thanks guys, we’re going to try and look into the recommendations and book something tonight.

Any recommendations for anywhere else to ride once we’ve completed CyB?

You are only 30 minutes drive from here, we always try and fit it in depending on uplift availability at some point during a long weekend

Depends what sort of thing you're after and which direction you want to be headed? As above, Antur is meant to be ok. There's Dyfi Bike Park just south. Betws-y-Coed to the north and Penmachno. Llandegla a bit further out towards Chester. Is the Mach trail (?) still at Machynlleth? That was supposedly pretty good back in the day but no idea if it actually was / if its still there etc. Then of course theres all the natural stuff...

Just general trail riding for this trip, I’ve done Antur before and loved it but not really in the agenda for this time.

I’ll look into Cadair Idris. We’re happy to use CyB as a base and drive anywhere worth going within an hour in any direction I suppose

@OP I'd pitch up here for the other couple of days. Betws has the follow your nose riding (Marin + Penmachno) and you're also in easy reach of Antur too. Lots of steep/"Enduro" stuff in the Gwydyr woods too (where the signposted Marin trail is). Lots of pubs/eateries a 2-min cycle away from the site.

Any good GPX of Cadair Idris?

We are hoping to just tick some classic trail centres off the list, so only really planned on marked trails.

I don’t have a gpx of the route but there’s quite a few places online that will show the route up. You’re approaching from SW of the peak, afaik there’s just the one legit route. It’s mostly rideable, jeep track turning into grassy trail until the saddle west of the peak, and then turning into hike a bike for the last bit below the summit.

It’s not a classic in the same way as Snowdon rangers, it’s all pretty easy, but worth it for the views and big mountain feel.

If you want a clear recommendation then I’d say Penmachno. Although it’s meant to be less good in the wet. If you have time add the Marin

Penmachno has good up and down riding on single track and even some nice birds across to the hills at some point. I really like it

Be warned Penmachno has no facilities so I didn’t believe I’d found it
