Was in the market for the new code RSC brakes. All reviews appear very positive. However just noticed that the guide RSC are on sale at chain reaction for £90 an end. Which is a big difference to the codes at £176 a brake.
Would still prefer the codes but am leaning towards the guides due to the cost saving.
Anyone tried both? Would I regret getting the guides?
I won’t be doing alpine descents so don’t need them to favour that and not overheat. But will be riding DH / enduro trails mainly.
Guide RE maybe? It's the cheaper Guide lever with Code caliper.
As above Guide RE. Tweets were doing them at £79.99 an end
I’m presuming that the guide re are equivalent to the new code r? But the code has an updated lever?
I've got Codes on my Kenevo, they are meh. I've got Guides on my Capra, they are meh. I've got ancient half knackered Hope Tech M4's on my Shan - I prefer them to any of the SRAM bobbins

Buy M4's then
4 pot Guide RS on my bike - they stop me fast - no issues. Trail use and XC, not DH.
So..
Folk faff too much. Any well set up brake will stop you faster than you need to these days. My son said my Guide RS were on/off coming from cable disc - haah haah - I said they were so controlled with one 'finger'..... his cable brakes are great, but moving to a good hydraulic brake is a bit 'over the bars'
Guide RE are ridiculously good.
Got code rsc on my new Capra, they are very good, way more.powerful feeling than the hope tech 3 e4 I have on my orbea.
Have also tried guide r, they're good but not as God as the codes.
Used to get killer finger pain on the hopes from squeezing so hard on long descents ,but no pain at all with the codes.
Neither, get Shimano 😉
I still haven't forgiven SRAM for the crappy (and supposedly brilliant) Avid X0 brakes that were scary and utter shite on long descents in the Alps. I swapped for XT and have had many years of no such issues. Admittedly the newer brakes feel better on the bikes I've tested in the UK since, but that's in the UK and haven't had the guts to try them in France.
Rode both / gave them a lot of abuse on lift assisted downhills recently.
If you ride once a week normal UK red trails with say a yearly trip to BPW or a UK enduro, are light to med weight, don't abuse your brakes/gear and like modulation then Guide RSC's are a fine brake. I run Guides on my hard tail and am perfectly happy with them, despite bad experiences in the Alps / Enduro with them.
If you are heavier, drag or abuse brakes in any way, like a little more burly feel but still like a little modulation and / or do any sustained downs then the Code's are for you.
Less modulation / instant on; go for Saint's or four pot XT's.
After trying pretty much everything mainstream I'd personally be very happy with Code RSC's, Saint's, four pot XT's or Hope V4's. Anything else would get replaced for Enduro / Alps / lift assisted riding.
After having used both, the codes are way better. The lever feels more solid on the codes and they are noticeably more powerful. I prefer them over Shimano zees also and Ive always loved Shimano brakes
AFAIK - ref the guide RE they use the OLD code caliper not the newest style one, so not the same as the current ones at all
I swapped between Guide RE's (so old-spec Code calipers, Guide levers) on my 5010 & Guide RSC's on my friends Bronson and the Guide RE's were noticeably more powerful and confidence-inspiring given that they were on very similar bikes (same tyres even) and ridden down the same trails (in this case we were out in Les Gets). This was both with stock pads, newly fitted and bedded for the trip.
If you don't need all the adjustment that you get with the higher-end levers then I'd recommend getting whichever Code-calipered option you can for the amount you want to pay, whether that's Guide RE's or lower-spec Codes.
Guide RE - Yes they are the older code caliper + a fairly basic guide lever but they're great. Much prefer them over the SLX they replaced.
Neither, get Shimano
I've not forgiven Shimano for the utter shite that were my XTR Trails...
I run Guide RSC's on both bikes and they seem to do OK on the Demo (although I'd like the Codes, I just can't justify the money at the mo). I have the earlier Guides and they're easy enough to bleed (which I've only done when fitting), other than that all I've done for the last two and a half years is swap pads out.
I've got the new Code RSCs on the DH bike, with the Guide RSCs on another bike. I've also had the older Codes on other bikes. The Codes for me have been incredible, much better than any brakes I've tried.
The Guides feel average. No money no object I would be swapping mine for a set of Codes
Codes it is then! Cheers all.
I used the Code RSC out in the Alps, they're the best brakes I've owned - better than my Tech V2 Hopes in terms of modulation and just as powerful.
Vs my Dads Tech 3 E4s, they feel like they are as grabby at slow speeds - ie doing an endo is no easier, so to being with I was a bit underwhelmed - but they don't fade as much during high speed braking. I feel like they modulate better as well. The downsides? They have more dead lever throw, the lever isn't as smooth despite the bearings that everyone raves about and they eat pads.
