We've got a road route done, but just wondered if any locals could spare a moment to advise if any of the roads chosen are awful, and what would be better.
The other problem is, I can't fathom flickr, to put the effing pic on here. So help with this first would be ace.
On flickr click the box with arrow coming out of it, select BB code and the size copy and paste the link on here.
I can't see it in the app , and I can't log in to the website. Jesus
Best advice is end it at Newcastle river front pub / cafe.
I've got a gpx file of the run in to the end which mainly clings to the waterfront if you want it.
It's not my manor, but I'd avoid the roads we saw on the way in.
Richpips, yes please.
We plan a lunch at Housesteads fort then freewheel the next 50 miles down to the sea.
We plan a lunch at Housesteads fort then [s]freewheel[/s] slog ourselves stupid into a headwind for the next soul destroying 50 miles desperately looking [s]down to[/s] for the sea.
Headwind? That isn't in the itinery.
Mine neither. I did way of the roses c2c the other week. Last bit was windy 🙂
West to east the prevailing wind will be behind you. Personally I'd ignore the last bit of the route and make it up but then I live in Newcastle.
If you put a route up I can comment. When I did it I came in on the Waskerley way as I know that is nicer than the official route.
Put something up so we can have a
Look.
Headwind? That isn't in the itinery.
Oh yes it is...
Personally I've never found a very satisfying route out to the coast from newcastle. If you definitely want to end at the coast the sunderland finish might be a better bet. Don't do what I did and finish at 2:45pm on a match day in full lycras...
Can I email someone to put the route up, I can't get into my flickr account, and I can't seem to do it from the app.
My mate organising is a Geordie, so we have dome local knowledge on board.
My main concern is are we missing some nice quiet roads, or are the roads we have chosen shagged.

the run in from Newcastle to tynemouth isn't particularly scenic, but the roads aren't bad, and there's a bike path along most of it. same goes for south shields....
Tynemouth's nicer than South Shields IMHO
Far nicer and no need to cross the Tyne then.
Personally, I would start from further down the coast and work your way up. In terms of the sights, it's the nicest bit. Some of it anyway.
I'm guessing you want it short as possible though? If you follow the official Sustrans route, basically from Carlisle to Newcastle almost is all road. The off-road sections before and after are all rideable on road bikes, but that may or may not be your preference.
Thanks Drac
