Anyone had any experience of the coaching at BPW? thinking of doing a day in the new year. can ride pretty much most things there (not the pro lines mind). Thinking of doing a jumps coaching day. Any experiences??
Took the drops course a few years ago, it was very good.
Griff who takes them is an excellent coach, and handles small groups of mixed ability really well. For example there was me and another guy who've been riding for years, he wanted to perfect his method and I wanted more confidence to do something I could already do, mixed with newer riders who'd never rode a drop properly before and it went well.
The format is either a morning or afternoon course and with a full day pass to practice when you're not being taught, so for that reason it makes a lot more sense to have a morning course if you're nervous, but perhaps an afternoon course if you're hoping to polish skills so you can warm up first, but really I think the morning makes the most sense for most people.
Courses are on existing trails, but Griff knows the quieter spots in the park so you're rarely disturbed by passing riders.
Did the drops course with Justin a few months ago. Enjoyed it and it boosted my confidence before a big riding holiday. When you consider you get a half day coaching and the uplift for the other half of the day the value isn't bad. I'd agree with the comment above about doing the coaching in the morning if possible so you can put it into practice in the afternoon. My coaching was in the afternoon so I spent the morning not wanting to knacker/injure myself
I’ve done jumps with Griff and corners with Justin at BPW. Also done the jumps and drops course with Jedi on his land. All are awesome. Everyone picks out something different / gives you a different perspective as your riding level progresses. If I had the time / money if love to do them all again.
+1 - The Mrs & I had a morning's private coaching session with Griff a year or so ago, as mentioned above he's an excellent coach. I'd definitely advocate giving yourself at least another day's riding afterwards to try and cement what you learn and put it into practice.
BPW is wholly unlike anything trail-wise we have (in D&G/South Scotland at least), so I tend to find it difficult to not fall into old habits/lines etc on trails you know.
I enjoyed a half day ‘jump starter’ course with Griff at BPW last year - cost wise it wasn’t too bad. However they’ve discontinued the jump progression course after that so the only option is private coaching.
Works out very expensive, so this week I’m having some coaching with Katy Curd at FOD - the value is better in my mind as you don’t have to pay for uplift as well - when you don’t really need it for sessioning a few specific jumps.
