So my hard tail is now a do it all bike, fun at weekends and commuting in the week.
I got a drawing pin in my tyre today after a particularly long day in the office, and wasn't too impressed to find myself with a flat. No worries, I carry a spare tube and patches and mini pump always. I'll throw the spare tube in and patch up the puncture at the weekend.

Anyhow, my very mini frame pump, whilst doing its job, is hard work getting a 26x2.4 tyre up to pressure.. Got there after lots of pumping and sweating, just about enough pressure to do the job.

So for stressy rushed situations I've been looking at co2 for those situations where your just fed up and want to get going.. I've always turned my nose up at co2 as only for racing or the very lazy.. Suffice to say my opinion is now changing.

Any recommendations? I've got my eye on the lezyene one that's about £18 for the head and one refill. I think it comes with quite a small 16g cartridge but was wondering if that's enough to fill the above tyre to somewhere between 30-40psi, or if if anyone has any other suggestions?

Cheers

I just got a cheap as chips one off eBay. Has worked fine for me, no need to get anything any more expensive. Does both types of valve.

how about one of these? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lezyne-micro-floor-drive-hv-abs-pump-with-gauge/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&sku=5360458183&ci_src=18615224&ci_sku=5360458183uk&utm_source=google&utm_term&utm_campaign=UK_PLA_Accessories&utm_medium=base&utm_content=mkwid%7csJX7gVAqR_dc%7cpcrid%7c67090840382%7cpkw%7c%7cpmt%7c%7cprd%7c5360458183uk

I have a big dislike for those little canisters as I don't think many people recycle them and plenty of cyclists just seem to dump them by the road 😕

16g is enough for one tyre. You can get a box of 30 inflators for 20 quid on www.co2cartridges.co.uk

Thanks.. Yeh one of the reasons that has always put me off is the waste, as the canisters seem to be one use then discard.

I have a track pump at home so I'm not fussed about bulk buying cartridges, but a single hitter would be handy for annoying situations.

I bung my canisters in the recycle bin at home. There are always tossers who will litter the trails, if not with CO2 cartridges its discarded gel packs or cans of energy drinks cause they're so gnar they need the extra energy. String 'em up by their testis I say.

I have a proper track pump at home.. So I'm just looking for something cheap and portable.. My mini pump that's always strapped to my frame works but it's low volume.. So if it's raining and cold and I've had a bad day at work and I need to catch a train.. Co2 is looking very appealing!

Once you've used the CO2 cartridges you'll never use a pump on the trial again. I carry a very small pump to top up the tyre as one cartridge doesn't quite get my 29er MTB tyres to the pressure I like, so a few pumps with the mini-pump to top up. But on the road bike one canister is fine. I've even used cartridges in the garage instead of the track pump - if you buy them in bulk they're pretty cheap. Its literally 30 seconds vs. about 5 minutes of pumping.
