I’ve got a giant glory 2016 with a hope wheel and a zee rear mech
When I case a jump or hit the back wheel in a rock garden the rear of the bike makes a clong noise
I can recreate the noise by lifting the back end of the bike by the seat and dropping the rear wheel Onto the ground and the cranks rotate backwards as the noise happens . The noise pretty much stops if I put some tension in the drive train with My foot on a pedal
All pivots are tight and bearings good
Hub/bearings seem smooth/solid with no play
Any ideas what I need to look at? Chain length/rear mech spring tension/rear hub pawls??

Cheers

James

If you rotate the pedals forward quickly with the rear wheel on the ground, do you get a similar “clong”?

Yeah it does, bit more subtle but it’s the same sound

Sounds like it’s just the pawls engaging with the freehub. It’s sometime more noticeable once the grease in the hub starts to thin and is especially noticeable on hubs with slow engagement.

Try a service and re-grease for the pawls.
