Does such a thing exist?
Basically after a clippy shoe/boot for winter that come with a removable cover/plates, so that I can get away with them on flat pedals. I have Time ATAC pedals on the bike, and a pair of flat pedals scrounged of a mate which I'll fit for winter.
Or should I just be done with it, be realistic, and buy two pairs of shoes.
Hello my name is Seadog and I am a cheap-skate.
shimano am45
am45 are like sponges - also quite heavy - 1100g a pair pre ride, 1600+ g after a wet ride (yes ive weighed them)
take an age to dry as well
but they are very very warm when wet, and can be ridden with spd's fitted on flat pedals.
which is what the op asked for.
no doubt, id recommend some shoe covers though, because like i said they hold water like nobodies business, and 2 miles into a 30 mile ride that can be miserable
AM45 here. Used them on flats for ages and the soles have held up remarkably well. Decent grip too.
Magic, as the AM45's were what's being considered around here.
On the other hand I have found am45s to have terrible grip on flats - I think the cleat sits on the axle of my superstar nanos lifting the rest of the shoe off the platform. They hold off water a long time though especially considering the price vs. Proper waterproof shoes or endless worn out overshoes.
Do you have walking boots? I used them for ages before I switched to clipless
spech tahoe's here
I occasionally hop on some flats with my 5-10 Minaars and my Teva Pivots. The cleat is still there and it's not great. Have a look for some of those cheap Teva Links that are going about. Then you can have 2 pairs of shoes and swap back to clips and have dry feet the next day

I've had AM45's and partner has had Spesh Tahoe's and Northwave Missions.
All fine, but the Shimano's had the best grip.
5.10 Minnaars(sic) are very grippy (almost 5.10 like) for flats. I've used them on flat pedals while trying other people's bikes and they're grippy as hell. They also grip really well when unclipped on the resin pedal of my DXs when other shoes would have been sliding around on the plastic.
They're are other models as mine are a bit heavy and not as stiff compared to the Missus' Shimano DX shoes, but the Shimano's are nowhere near as grippy.
