Hi. Ive been on the single speed for most the winter and got my T-130 out yesterday and still have an annoying click/tick when i press hard on the right hand pedal. It does the same when off the bike when i hold the rear brake on and press on the right pedal (rarely does it from the left). It clicks when i press down then clicks again when i release.
My LBS said it was the rear linkage and stripped/cleaned/greased/re tightened and this helped for a few rides. I did the same process last year and it helped for one 30 mile ride. I i undo the rear Maxle the noise is the same. If i press on the crank arm and not the pedal the noise is also the same. It has a new Hope BB and i thoroughly cleaned and greased when that was installed.
So i can rule out the following:
Rear Maxle
Pedals
BB
Any ideas what i can try next?
check the tubes and wields on the frame for cracks, especially seat tube, but yeah tricky with FSers so many things to develop play.
cranks might be worth a look.
Bolt on dropouts?
Shock bushes?
(cleaning and re-greasing BB doesn't seem very exhaustive testing, do you have/can you borrow a BB and cranks from elsewhere for testing?)
Thanks. I have some XT Cranks and BB on my old bike i could try for a ride.
Remove, clean and/or replace the headset and bars.
Chainring bolts
Are you riding clipped in? I had this with my road bike and it was the cleat that was clicking, sent me mad stripping the bike to try and sort it...
I think I've solved it!!!
I took the cranks off to check the chainring bolts and spider and when i loosened the 3 spider bolts it made the same click. I put the cranks back on with the spider a little loose and i can't get it to click.
I had previously greased the spider and bolts but obviously that didn't work. Should i try something different other than normal bike grease?
Spent ages trying to figure out what the creak/click was on my Orange. After stripping the components and regreasing everything it turned out to be the bearings, same with the GF's Transition. Check those.
