I bought a Stumpjumper beginning of February and after 4 rides become aware (can’t swear it wasn’t there prior but sure I’d have noticed) a click/knock on every suspension hit/movement. If I push up and down on the top tube just to get a small movement I can hear the click/knock. It sound like it’s coming from the front half of the main triangle. I can’t feel any movement, shock bush for instance.
I left it with the shop and picked up today, they say that nothing is loose and that the click is normal, just air moving in the shock. I’ve not had that before on previous bikes.
Anyway, I know these sort of things are tricky to pinpoint but are they right? Do all shocks click/knock when in motion, even for just few mm of travel?
Assuming it's a 2019 model, 2 things spring to mind as my Evo had a little creak/crack once it all bedded in.
First up, remove and grease the rear thru axle, including the threads and the conical washer. Mine was dry on arrival.
Then look at the flip chip on the shock shuttle. Again, mine was dry, so grease all surfaces before reassembly, and same for the eyelet bolt. Torque up to spec and that should see you right.
Could the noise be from your forks, after a few rides of my latest bike i discovered a clicking/knocking sound. After visiting a couple of bike shops who where both stumped i eventually managed to suss that it was a loose bottomless token, once sorted no more noise👍
Not your rear hub is it? My Roval traverse worked itself apart a couple of times...
Thanks for the replies. I'll have a looks at the suggestions.
The shop supposedly cleaned and greased all the pivot points. The noise (knock/click) can be replicated with the bike stationary with little or no movement of other components. Doesn't mean it's not them thou.
I'm still skeptical on their statement about all shocks knocking as they move!
We got that reply when we bought our first Land Rover, which made a horrible clack when you declutched - the gearbox output pinion splines were moving in the transfer box input pinion. They all do it when the splines are about to strip. We sold it on PDQ.
is it a 2019?
mine started clicking a lot. It was the headset. turns out theres nor a lot of grease on all bits from the factory.
