not a creak - its like a strange click that only seems to happen off road on climbs....doesnt do it on road at all and doesnt do it on descents!

bearings change last week but click is still there?

i have recently gone 1x10 and although i could have sworn it wasnt there on my first few outings on it, it could well be that it was there (just out with friends and it was raining/windy/noisy...

so far ive tried, bb, chainring bolts, headset, stem bolts/plate bolts, seatpost, saddle, pro2 hub...

its NOT a creak though, really is just an annoying niggly click....im also just wondering if its something as silly as the chainguide catching the chain when the suspension compresses slightly on the climbs, though in day light there is no rubbing on it when stationary....

bring on filing cabinet pics....

What pedals do you have ? could be a bearing or bush gone on one of the pedals

Have you used copper grease on all the threads, bb, pedals, bolts ?

ive greased the dropouts and axle (as it wasnt/hasnt been done since new)....i cant see that causing a click though? and would have thought it would click on all the climbs i do....but ive not checked to see if its worked yet....gonna have another look tonight see what else i can do lol

my fives only ever creaked before when i had a cracked pro2 hub- mine has ALWAYS been silent other than that!

My five developed an annoying creak when climbing. I found it went away when I really tightened the rear wheel quick release. I don't think the rear drop outs should have grease on them as it could cause slippage.
My commuter started creaking and then the saddle fell off after the seat post saddle bolt sheared.
Hope my suggestions are of use.

Mine clicks like an arthritic lap dancer.

I am going to replace my rear qr for a shimano one

Either that or sell it on eBay as used office furniture

Seriously it's a foible of a fantastic bike, this lot on here love to bash a great classic ( and yes it's over priced ) and is far better bike than I can ever ride to its full potential and as a middle aged wannabe it suits me just fine and dandy

What did you do to the rear pro2 - full new bearings and pawls?

Did you replace the pinch bolts when you did the bearings? They stretch overtime. Do not try and sort the problem by tightening them if it is this. Splash a couple of quid on new bolts.

Could try the mech hanger, it seems an odd place to try but I have got rid of clicks and creaks on lots of bikes by just cleaning the mech hanger and snuging down the bolt.

Worth a try.

Another less than obvious place to try is the cables, my road bike was giving off annoying click the other day, turned out to be the gear cable.

rik - just cleaned and regreased pawls/springs, its a newish pro2 evo and bearings seemed fine.

give the headset a good clean and greased bearings etc, also replaced my hope outer seals on my bb, as they seemed pretty worn and loose in the cups, so possibly could be them moving around clicking loose

cables ive now ziptied just to see if its them

havent had chance to test ride yet, but i think ive physically done everything possible that i do myself...

oh, checked pedal threads and the right hand one was a bit loose, as in literally un screwed with the faintest of turns, whether that could be the cause i dont know! now tightened!

will report back after tonight!

If you are running 1 x 10 is your front sprocket set up so that you have minimal chain line lateral distortion to your rear sprockets ?

It may be that the chainline (whilst under higher than normal tension i.e. when climbing) is running off to one side !

Adjust into lowest gear and run pedals round by hand, get someone to apply a bit of pressure to the wheel and watch your chain line, how straight is it ??

Just a thought.

cheekyboy - sounds exactly what im actually thinking it was all along 🙁

does seem too strange that it occured after i went or around the time of 1x10...

i did try and align the chain guide again last night, spend a good hour trying different angles etc, it was very close to touching stationary before, and the more i think about it could have just been a clicky catchy type noise on compression of chain against plastic guide.....

ive managed to get more clearance defo, but i didnt have any one to hand to compress and check again at the same time, good thing is its defo now at least got more clearance than it did before stationary!

Had a similar issue .... finally tracked it down to the rear hub that had cracked around a drive side spoke hole. That was after changing bearings (hub, frame and B/B), greasing threads and checking the fram for cracks!

Grease the free hub on the outside before you put the cassette on !

Thats what did it for me after trying all the above.

had that happen to me before, its not the same sort of noise, that was just more like a creak, and pretty constant on any type of climbing, this is just a click and only seems to happen off road on climbs...

hopefully something ive done has cured, will find out tonight i guess!

My Pro2 rear hub started clicking after a while, as the cassette had bitten into the freehub (as expected) and caused a bit of play. Tightening the cassette sorted it. Only clicked under power uphill

Is it when you are on the bike or when it's in the Audi? Hopefully it's the bike rather than the car 😯
