Is there any way of cleaning the grime off skinwall tyres?
I have returned to all black due to the heavy discolouration of the skinwall I had had on the back of the roadbike, and the fact that I have been unable to make it look half-decent again.
But surely, there must be some effective way of getting rid of the black staining, otherwise how could they have enjoyed the revival they have?
It's a sign that skinwall tyres are un-natural, and pointing you in the path of the righteous.
What revival. Its just marketing bollocks and idiots.
Tyres are black for a reason.
The standard way of cleaning old skin walls is bob them in the washing machine. Worked well on some of the old MTB skin walls from the 80/90’s I’ve had.
either:
- stop caring and just put up with then looking crap in winter
OR
- use them for riding in nice weather only
take your pick...everything else is just wasted effort trying to make them clean again and ultimately either failing or destroying the sidewall in the process.
Mr Sheen does it. Used to use them on coloured road tyre side walls.
Tyres are black for a reason.
And that reason is that they use Carbon black as a reinforcing filler. There are other reinforcing fillers, but they don't work as well, all things considered.
It's not because they look the best, or they don't show the dirt.
They vary depending on manufacturer. I find the Schwalbe Ones come clean with some kitchen spray. Vittoria Corsas do not really come up clean at all - hence the grey versions.
The Ones really are lovely tyres.
