What are they like for taking kids round? I’m off tomorrow and was planning to take them for a bike ride.

Grand once you avoid the black descent, may be a little too much. You can pull up early on any of the red stuff too.

Pumptrack and skills area in the park is worth some time. Nice playground there too.

We've done the skills area and pump track but not the trails. Just want to make sure that it isn't full of gnarr and burnt out cars.

It's a pretty nice route. I'd recommend doing the blue route first time round and then the red if they manage that.

No burnt out cars the last time I went round but can't promise anything as it is in Manchester...

I ride the Vale loads and the blue trail is perfect for kids - the red has a couple of tricky drop offs into some tight berms, but they're all rollable apart from the last big one near the first descent and even that's just about rollable.

People are always a bit wary of the Vale which is a shame because it's a cracking facility for manchester riders and the cycling centre keeps it in decent nick too - they cleared loads of fallen trees after the recent storms. It's also great to ride if you can ride fast with good technique or if you're slow and learning - it's never going to be Penmachno but it's great for where it is.

I've ridden the trails at least once or twice a week for years now and never had a problem (touch wood) I wouldn't leave my bike unattended near the velodrome mind!!

asked this about three years ago for mine got the same advice and on the strength of this I took them
It was the correct decision

Some steep short climbs some steepish berms - mine hate them - and a steep climb right at the far end on the red

Basically its worth it

There's a short red loop on the first drag out to newton heath sidewinder. It's pretty easy but a good marker to see if your kids can tackle the reds further round. I think we rode the black last time, its just a bit steep compared to the rest of the course IIRC, my lad and his mate, 8 and 10 rode it okay, but we may have missed part of it out.

It's a nice run out with kids, being going with my lad since he was five.

Just got back. Kids weren't happy with some of the tighter short climbs. On reflection I think Waterdale is a bit better.

RULE 5

Mine liked clearing the big one and shouting rider to some adults pushing their bikes 😉
