Have just been informed by eBay that the pair of Clarks Clout1 that I bought five years ago are being recalled.

The recall notice appears to have been triggered by some issues with GasGas / Huqvarna e-bikes fitted with these brakes

Linky

I don’t have them anymore, as they went on a bike that I sold, so I’ll have to find a way to send the recall on somehow.

I think I've got Clarks Clout1 on my commuter. But it's not an e-bike, this seems only to relate to e-bikes. Nothing on the Clarks website about a recall on their recall page currently. Are they not up to the demands of an e-bike perhaps?

I bought some of eBay a few years back and got the notice this morning. The seller I bought them off is no longer contactable so have emailed Clark's to find out what the problem is and how to proceed.

Will update if I hear anything.

I don’t know what the failure is attributed to, just what’s in the email from eBay and the link they provided. They were bought from the Clark’s eBay store so I’m assuming they’ve matched them up as being affected somehow.

Yep, I've received this notice too. Still got them fitted to the bike and never been used as it was going to be sold but I never did.

I think mine came from the Clarks eBay store, too. Will check it out later.

It's the same lever as the M2 so wonder if they got recalled too?

The Clout brakes I have came off a bike I bought from Halfords. I expect they would have contacted me about this recall if needed.

I binned a set of those on my commuter - the two halves of the caliper bolt together with an o ring to seal the oil passage. On one of them the caliper weeped oil from that joint when under brake load / pressure / flex. Maybe the same issue for the recall?

Just had a couple of emails from Clarks. The recall is only on the bikes, there is no acticve recalls on the brakes themselves:

"... there is NO recall on any of our brake systems, the below link you sent me on recall relates to 2023 and it was e-bikes they decided to spec with non e-bike brakes because they could not source e-bike brake systems during covid.

So, to reiterate there is no recall on the brakes you have, and they are fine and safe to continue to use."
