Just replaced the bearings on linkages on Commencal Meta 5.5 frame and whilst frame in bits sent the rear shock (Fox RP23) to TF tuned for a service. Followed instructions in 'MBR mag doing the replacement bearings and used a torque wrench. all went well and assembled frame fine and dandy. Shock returned with new body and mounts fitted and serviced. Fitted it and first ride out was at night and noticed clanking sound occasionally from somewhere when landing small drops but thought could be light battery hitting frame. Second ride out in daytime and same happening . Only happens when rear wheel is dropped sharply onto ground . Cannot find where it is coming from - tried with a different wheel and checked all linkage bolts for tightness . I can only guess clanking is coming from shock itself . Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas, before I contact TF tuned ?
How is your cable routing?
Shock pressure and rebound set correct?
Bren , the cable routing is unchanged and shock reassure and rebound has been set up same as it was prior to being sent off the TF tuned. I noted both before it was sent. The noise really doesn't sound at all like hose or cable , but a pretty solid sharp metal on metal clank immediately when the rear wheel drops sharply onto the ground and it does not happen when suspension compressed more gradually at all , or during quite full on bouncing on the pedals !
do they do the shock bushes when they service ?
lean on the saddle while off the bike and rapidly move you weigh on an of the bike. Is there a clunk ?
Hmm ...Don't think they do iin a standard service , but there was no noise when it when to them and no indication of worn bushes. The sound is like a bushing now you mention it. The shock body was replaced as they found a few tiny scratches on it. Is it possible they have not matched or replaced the bushes to suit the new shock body?

check it actually has a bush in 😉
