Snowing on the Stelvio at the moment, helicopters grounded so TV coverage is going to be patchy.

Watching on Eurosport, looks grim.
Certainly does! Earning their money today.
Massive descent off the Stelvio too, probably worse than the climb up it in this weather. Deep snow up the top.
Yikes, just like last year then 😕
Shame the coverage on Eurosport missed the Gavia. Rather them than me today! Hard as..
Descent down the Stelvio is going to paced by a motorbike apparently.
Shame the coverage on Eurosport missed the Gavia.
It was on Eurosport online but no commentary. Should be able to view it on demand later too.
Speaking of descending, awful to see Phinney come a cropper at the US nationals. Hopefully they'll all get down safely today.

Just heard that, I wonder how it will work as the race is on. Time gaps somehow preserved?
Edit: doesn't look like there's any pacing going on
Cataldo pushing on! No sign of him being paced down.
just think if they had discs eh?
Truly truly epic (a word I do not use lightly) racing. The Giro is something else, and far from over!
Nothing neutralised about this. Classic stuff. Quintana is not going to like this.
[quote=reggiegasket ]just think if they had discs eh?
I'm guessing lot of locked wheels and falls
Indeed. I find my mtb near impossible to control. (this may actually be true but it a reflection of me rather than the discs 😉 )
Be great if Cataldo holds this. Big ask but he's not hanging around at the moment.
"If it was tennis we'd just pull the covers and have a cup of coffee" little dig from Sean! 😆

I'm glad your MTB is used with 23 or 25 slick tyres on wet and snowy roads exclusively 🙄
Cracking quote from Sean Kelly: if this were tennis we'd just pull the plastic over and go for coffee! 🙂
Not seen any time gaps for a while now. Be good if he could hold on. Probably need a good few minutes at the base of the climb though.
45ish seconds to the chasing group. Not sure how far back to the pack though

Yes, because all disk brakes are identical with absolutely no modulation what so ever 🙄
Carbon rims and rim brakes are far more grabby in general than disks.
1 min to chase/3 mins to maglia rosa according to cycling news
Blimey some biggish gaps made on the descent if the stated time gaps are to be believed.
I'm guessing lot of locked wheels and falls
You just don't get it do you...

Can you chaps not go find a road disc thread and go argue there?
Great stage so far.
Blimey want a summit in the snow. Most of team Columbia looked absolutely frozen. It's chaos - riders and team cars all over the place. What an epic days riding.
Great stage so far.
It'd be better if they were on discs 🙂
Epic stuff though. Reminds me of the recent meme of 'pretends he's hurt/pretends he's OK'.
Can't see Cataldo holding on to this, only 1'20 at the base of the climb and the GC boys are pushing on.
Swallow him up and blast past I reckon.
As the commentators have said - his breakaway is caught in the crossfire of the Quintana vs Uran chase - and he's likely to get caught.
Quintana and Rolland...bring it....
Brilliant stage so far ( as well as bonkers ). Looks like PR, NQ and RH might get reeled in as I'd have thought they'd be increasing the gap at this stage. They've all worked hard last week. Waiting to see what Possovivo and Aru can do today.
Edit: Scratch that, that's 20 secs they've put in over the last 2 km!
Yeah this is fantastic
Crap weather outside. Evening in front of Eurosport watching today's stage.
That's my evening sorted.
Fantastic this
Cat and mouse
3 minutes, someone's got to go!
Surprised to see Rolland go, he's looked comfortable so far.
Brilliant shot of Rolland " giving up " with a massive exhale as he went round the corner.
I always like to see Rolland dropped. Just always struck me as having no class.
Question now is how much he can put into the others ahead of the final time trial
Incredible
Come on Ryder!!! Though can't begrudge Quintana the stage, brilliant ride.
"This may be his first ever Giro stage win". It's his first giro. 🙄
Great stage by Ryder. Especially after how the TTT went...

Awe what? He's moulded out of Vocklers skin that lad..
Brilliant stage, and this final climb has got to become a regular. It's just nasty.
They are all absolutely spent.

Agreed. He' been a breath of fresh air over the last couple of seasons.

Anything would be nasty after the Gavia and Stelvio in those conditions!
Fabulous stage that, epic in those conditions.
carbon copy of this year's Fred Whitton....
That was definately worth a few hours of my life. At last a result for my fantasy league as well.
Great stage!
renewed my eurosportplayer subscription just in time 😉

like by attacking on the 14th stage of the 2012 TdF when Wiggo had neutralised it after the tack sabotage?
Yep, that as a primary reason but a couple of other things since too. ymmv of course..
Is there anywhere that does a decent highlights package? Eurosport is just showing the last 15km.

Over three hours (last 90k) of that stage on-demand on Eurosport player. I wasn't sure it was really worth the money (about 4 quid a month) when it was just streaming live stuff, but they've really improved the on-demand content and now most stuff is available to view the next day (and it works on pc/mac, mobile devices, and some smart telly's too.)
Talk of sanctions against some teams/individuals according to the eurosport commentators. Meant to be an official announcement this afternoon. Plenty of intrigue!
