I have recently been blown away by on one CM tyres-previously only using lighter tyres like Ardent Race
I spoke to PX today and discovered that CM replacements are unlikely in the near future
What tyre -pref Maxxis would people say performs closely to a CM/Smorgasbord combo please
Thanks
D

Chunky monkey equivalents are probably Maxxis DHF / Specialized Butcher : WTB Vigilante I’d say.

The new T9 butcher is meant to be good - I’ve bought a 2.3” one to try on my 29er but it won’t be going on until the slop has mostly gone. Sticking to a hillbilly until then.

The chunky monkey is alright but struggles in mud a bit - clogs too easily. All of the above should put perform it I’d think.

Smogasbord I’m not sure about - it’s quite lightly treaded from last experience - but not a semi slick.

Maybe something like a Maxxis Rekon or for more grip in mud a Forekaster or dissector.

For the Chunky monkey I'd say the old specialized Eliminator grid is pretty similar in grip/rolling resistance. The Maxxis dhf is way more draggy.
Its hard to say though as it's a while since I've used a new one.

I too miss the CM, a great tyre especially in 26".
I have a couple left but they're only really suitable for rear use due to the wear.

I have used Chunky Monkeys, Minion DHFs and Spec Butchers.

They are broadly similar.

I have been very impressed with the new 2.6 T9 Butcher.

Yeah I don’t think the dhf rolls massively slower than a chunky monkey but it definitely has a broader spread of usefulness. I’ve got a new 2.3 butcher T9 I haven’t used yet but I’m expecting it to be similar ish.

If you want a step down in grip but faster rolling in Maxxis then I’d look at the Dissector
