My partner is adamant she wants a bike similar to below so we can take the boys out on bike rides 🙂

Where is the best place to buy? Any models to look out for without being too expensive?

A Huffy? 😯

There's a reason that bike festivals have an event called the "Huffy Toss" 😡

It will be very heavy. Avoid.

A friend of mine (female) really wanted one of those. In W Yorks it would be a nightmare as the brakes will be lame, it'll weigh as much as an aircraft carrier and the gears will be a hindersnce.

I explained to her that she'll love owning it and looking at it but she will hate riding it and it'll be a waste of money and won't be used. I built her a nice looking hybrid type bike which she loves riding - phew!

Bobbin do actually rideable versions of them. They aren't particularly cheap but they are a normal weight, built with good parts and ride really nicely. They also stop properly.

Wait for some sort of Halfords promo towards Black Friday (current prices are crazy high), but look at bikes such as...

I have a Huffy Good Vibrations given to me by a bloke working at the menwith hill US listening station and didn't want to take it home with him, it does indeed weight several tonnes. Can't see her wanting to ride anything more than canal towpaths on that.

Probably also worth pointing out that those suicide brakes are illegal on UK roads, so the bike would have to be fitted with at least one normal brake.

Worth a look at Decathlon, they have some in a similar style, quite reasonably priced. eg http://www.decathlon.co.uk/elops-320-classic-style-bike-peppermint-id_8352601.html

Electra do the nicest cruisers in my opinion/ experience.

http://www.electrabike.com/

They are fun and comfy to ride but weigh a tonne and have limited gears so best if you have a reasonably flat area to ride in.

I miss mine though!

My wife has a Pendleton, albeit a different model, and it's a pretty good bike. Proper components rather than being a BSO, not super heavy and handles ok. I'd also go with the Black Friday route or BC membership discount.

Pashley also do something similar which is good quality - though it's not cheap, and I've no idea how heavy it is.

Or the Elephant Bike, for a cheaper refurbished Pashley. It is rather heavy. http://elephantbike.co.uk/

My sister had an E-bike for xmas last year, now my brother in law is moaning because he can't keep up with her.
I was looking at one of these for the wife earlier in the week
