I've followed JMC's page for many a year that his family keep active.

This came up today - and excuse my possible ignorance, I don't know who the woman is - or the reference, but curious to the reference.

She might be Sophie Brookes, rode with JMC on team MBUK

Yes, think you are correct - some googleness suggested the same.

Still want to know what it's got to do with Chipps though - albeit MCTD may have come up with the simple answer

@TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR - it's because I took the photo. (And after Jase died, I sent Jim all the slides I had of Jason, so I have none left myself, so I guess it was just to give me some credit or show that he still had it).
The photo is Greg Lemond, JMC and his girlfriend at the time, Sophie Brookes. I took it in Vail in 1994 after Jason (and Sophie too, I think) had raced the World Champs DH. That was probably at the Four Cross or an after-party, where Greg got into trouble with his wife for hanging out in a nightclub with the Brit downhillers... 🙂

Cheers for the explanation @chipps.

Yeah knew it was Greg with him, which is about all I knew.

Great little back story though. Nice one 😊

JMC (and dirt on VHS) is the reason that as soon as I could afford to I bought a red Specialized. Even then couldn't stretch to stumpjumper

Crikey! I was at Vail in ‘94, and hung out a bit with the MBUK crowd and the GB team, and I well remember certain members were not on their best behaviour, naming no names! I went on an MBUK organised trip, with Justin Loretz, who I knew pretty well because he’d worked in John’s Bikes in Walcot Street, Bath, sadly no longer in existence.

I met and had a chat with JMC at the Specialized stand in the pits - a nicer bloke you couldn’t hope to meet, it’s heart-warming that his memory is being kept alive.

My first mountain bike was a red Stumpjumper, an ‘88 model with the ‘U’-brake under the chainstays - not one of the more scintillating inventions, it must be said… *rollseyes*
