So ive just found out i Need to be in Chinley in the afternoon tomorrow. I dont know round there too well - im more accustomed to the dark Peak and Macc.
Can someone suggest some rides from Chinley? Are there any maps online which i can print etc.
Thanks
Loads of great riding around there, local to the village, head north onto Chinley Churn via a steep road climb, found by going over the railway bridge and left and the T junction, crest the hill and descend to a bridleway climb on your right. Once on the flatter part, near the top, there are tracks in all directions; left takes you down a nicely rutted moorland trail and a very stream bed like trail towards the top of Laneside Road in New Mills, straight on leads to another junction, right to drop down to Peep-O-Day above Hayfield, left and then right further down leads closer to Hayfield, both nice descents.
There certainly isn't a wonderful but totally cheeky footpath descent heading off Cracken Edge and back towards Chinley. No, absolutely not there and begging to be ridden.
Ooh, just became local to the area so I'll be sure not to go at an appropriate time and not have a look at that FP off Cracken Edge, and definitely not whilst not having my bike. 😉
As mentioned Chinley Churn has plenty of trails (not tried them all yet). Alternatively head out on the road towards Chapel from Chinley, take the A624 Hayfield/Glossop Road on the left (under an arched bridge) turn immediately right besides the old pub (being converted to flats) then follow that (Beet Lane) upto the PBW - right at the top towards Roych/Rushup, left towards South Head/Mount Famine/Hayfield.

Don't do this - it doesn't exist. There's nothing to see here...
I wouldn't dream of it.
As there's a few locals here...
I've been looking at the OS map trying to establish anything worth a look the other side of the A6 (Eccles Pike?) and also towards Whaley Bridge and South towards Goyt Forest - any recommendations? Or anywhere else, away from the obvious mentioned above, someone new to the area should be checking out. (Of course non-cheeky only).
Sorry for the thread hijack OP!
There are 2 short bridleways on Eccles Pike, neither really worthy of note and I haven't investigated anything cheeky there. The Goyt valley on the other hand has a couple of nice bridleway bits and some footpaths that I can only imagine would make fantastic mountain bike trails. The imprints of a Hans Dampf/Nobby Nic combo that appeared last night on several of them are nowt to do with me. Honest Guv'nor.
Eccles Pike is pretty devoid of riding, I live on it! Lots of stuff in the Goyt valley, definitely worth an explore!
Thanks for the suggestions above!
From Chinley I went up and then down into and past peep-o-day, then across the road into the Pennine bridleway and into hayfield, then I went along the road towards New Mills and back up the hill I climbed up first time round from the other side, and back onto the start of the bridle way down into Peep-I-day.
And then I turned right 🙂
Didn't take as long as I thought, the decents were pretty decent, especially when I turned right, although I didn't think much of the first one through the farm.
So thanks for your suggestions, great way to end a working day!
You weren't at Stockport station today were you? I was talking to a lad on a Santa Cruz who'd been up that way?
^ wasn't me, I don't ride a Santa Cruz
Looks like the crackens deserted in the snow 😆
