I’m looking for a set of 165 mm cranks for the gravel bike. Appears you pay an absolute premium for any crank in 165 from a reputable supplier or second hand
Looking at trying one of the many Chinese offerings. Seen some issues with lightweight Chinese cranks snapping however. Any recommendations for something that’ll last?
what were you looking at specifically?
I've had a couple of iXF kinda old XT lookalikies that are built sturdy, and some phantom hardrock CNC jobbies with an alu 24mm axle that were OK, but the bolts are made of typical chinese cheese.
Samox or Prowheel are worth looking out for, large OEM manufacturers with good reps.
I use Senicx cranks on my gravel bike, usual 24mm axle etc , work fine ... id buy again
Do the senicx cranks have a steel axle? I’m wary of a 24 mm alu axle snapping
I got some ZRace Blade cranks for my Giant NRS. I’m a pretty hefty chap and they haven’t snapped yet. I’m no engineer but they feel pretty good quality.
I got some of these for my son. They need the axle trimming slightly if you use with a Shimano BB. Use SRAM direct mount chainrings.
Quite a few people on MTBR and Facebook kids MTB pages have used them
The Q factor is very wide compared to gravel cranks though. I think gravel are 151mm and these were more like 175mm
I’m looking for a set of 165 mm cranks for the gravel bike.
12spd 105 any good?
Merlin doing them for £105 right now
Got an 11spd for the road bike, can’t remember the name(can look if you want). No problems with the set up(& I’m a big lad), going to swap the 1 x 11 onto my new gravel bike & get rid of the 2 x 8 that came on it. Chinese shifters & rear mech.
i just a set of goblin cranks on my trail bike, I've tried to break them but they're more reliable than the hope ones i hoofed in the bin after the chainring kept undoing itself!
cost £36 all in, cranks/chainring/bb/post
That 105 is a decent deal but I want a single ring and they aren’t easy to come by in shimano bolt spec
im looking at the senicx pr3 for about 50 quid. Can’t tell if it has a steel axle however..
I had a set of these but got cold feet after heating reports of axle bolts snapping
We run (re-branded) Chinese square taper ones on the kids bikes, one set is Jet Racing and the other HUP, seem to be almost identical yet the Jet ones are half the price! I'm sure some of the more reputable AliExpress sellers will be fine, much like Toseek for carbon posts and the like
