Morning all. I decided to head back to China for 9 days this month and visit the 33rd China Cycle Expo in Shanghai. There is some really amazing MTB and EMTB tech out there, so I made a couple of videos at the show. I also believe STW plans to post some of my coverage soon, too so keep an eye out for that! Cheers

cool! is there an MTB scene out in China

the population is so huge, the terrain varied enough and obviously they have manufacturing they could dominate the entire scene/sport!

Yep, they have a massive scene out there. A national DH and XC series, loads of new bike parks and Asian DH Cup was recently held there. It's really exciting!

Lewis (and China as a whole) really don’t care about ripping off other people’s hard work.
I can’t wait to find out how many of their knockoff 5Dev cranks snap seeing as 5Dev are not the most robust cranks to start with.

other peoples IP is not much of a concern I'd guess.

The lewis cranks are a little more worked over in terms of machining than the aliexpress '5Dev' cranks widely available and look nicer as a result, but with Lewis brakes coming in at £300 a set, and the tech 3 a likes in the vid at £120 per end they are the premium end of chinese kit, where a lookey-likey set of Oniri brakes will set you bask £100 the set.

The Wheeltop wireless mech and shifter has been about for a while, though a few incarnations and looks quite nice now. Chinertown forums have a decent length thread about them and reliability seems varied.

one thing that wasn't shown is the L-TWOO MTB wireless setup. they have established themselves with the gravel wireless and road wireless (eGR and eRX) but have teased the eTX MTB versions recently and are setting them selves up to be more reasonably priced than the wheeltop (normally got for c£350) with rumours of c£150 for shifter and mech. with that, and the programmable nature of the controllers, the chinese wireless shifting systems have a lot of potential.

if you trawl aliexpress you'll find Ingrid, garbaruk and ActoFive cranks and component replicas, readily available and possibly made of cheese. it's a bit bonkers.

It's amazing how quickly* we moved on from the whole Specialized / Horst Leitner / Dave Turner / Tony Ellsworth debacle .

*it's been 20 years I suppose

Ride a Specialized you're responsible for more stifling litigation than any other bike company, everything from a suspension design (which they didn't invent), to a cafe named after a town, to which a Fuji actually own the rights to the bike namesake trademark.

Ride a Giant - Dave Weagle might have something to say on the suspension design

Ride a Trek - Dave Weagle might have something to say on the suspension design.

Lewis might be a little close to the wind in their 'copy' of Trickstuff cosmetically, but it's a brake, even if you started from scratch and changed every single part it would still look basically the same. From 6ft away a Formula Cura looks like a Shimano XT, weird how no one seems to have a problem with the Italians doing it?
