I am spending the day in Dunstable tomorrow and was thinking to take my bike. I planned a route mainly on bridleways going south west towards Ivinghoe Beacon.

How rocky is it? Wondering whether to bring the gravel bike or MTB.

Cheers,
Rich

Chalk and flint and dry - both would work.

It's not all gravel bike territory but there's no "rocks" it's either mud (or dust at the moment) or chalk which weathers quickly so you don't get lumps of it.

Mint for road riding there. Ivinghoe, Bison, Whiteleaf.

Thanks folks. Sound like gravel fur a bit of on road / off road. It’ll be cooler too on what looks to be a very hot day!

How far do you want to ride?

Plenty of good loops in that area going across to Ashridge and beyond. You can use the canal tow path to mix it up too.

Lots of great xc riding if you get a bit further west in the Chilterns, I've done some of my favourite rides near Tring sort of area.

I’ll probably have time for 30-40 miles

Thanks Andrew. I had a good ride, some fantastic countryside up there...nearly as good as the Surrey hills 😉

Glad you enjoyed it, and knew you would!

I’m biased, but it is a lovely place to be and to ride. Road, gravel or MTB.
