Anyone doing it?
I did my first 24hr at that same way back when and it was great, done a couple more there since.
I think this and the Puffer might be the only 24s in the UK this year so this is your last chance to do one.
Solos, pairs, quads. If you've not already entered you can do it here https://coldbrew.events/xc-mtb/chiller-24/
Great event. I've done it twice solo at Kielder. As with all 24 hour events the camaraderie is fantastic. Unfortunatley longterm injury means I won't be doing any more and unless Barry gets more entries it looks like it will be have to be cancelled. Why do some of these events struggle with entires when the Puffer sells out and its looking like its going to be the only 24 hour race left in the UK?.
Are 24/12 not running any more, I thought I’d read somewhere that they were starting again but I may be wrong?
I’ve done a couple of 24’s in the past but things like the Chiller just don’t appeal. It’s in the middle of nowhere, the weather’s most likely going to be a bit crap and there’s not even any food available on site from looking at the website. Why on earth would I go so far out of my way for what potentially sounds like a miserable weekend of riding?
Things like 24/12 used to be fantastic, a really good atmosphere, great courses and food &drink when you wanted it (mostly!)
It seems like endurance racing as a whole has died off in the UK now, we were just talking at the weekend about things like Dusk ‘til Dawn and the 12h Torq in Your Sleep and how they’re all gone and no doubt not returning. <br />It’s a huge shame but I guess it’s just the way that racing has evolved.

It's rebranded to 3Six12 this year, with races at 3hrs, 6hrs, and 12hrs (unsurprisingly), so no 24 option. I'm in for the 12h, I'd consider a 24h, but I'll be damned if my first one is an 8hr+ drive away, and is held in mid-winter!
I love a masochistic endurance event as much as the next unbalanced idiot, but being a southern softie it's 1. To far away, and 2. Totally the wrong time of year. I really couldn't be arsed to get frozen to the bone when not riding for 24 hours.
I wish them all the best for the event though.
Totally the wrong time of year.
There's no way you could run a 24 hour race at Kielder in the summer.

this is the sort of comment that needs qualifying for the clear minority of us who are uninitiated with the specifics of kielder in the summer....
Midges.
Hmm. Have toyed with doing a 24hr event over the years, but never done one. How silly would it be to enter it now, 5 weeks out, with good base fitness (regular riding up to 3 hours) but no recent long rides under my belt?
There's the deadwater 100 in September. Both metric and imperial 100s.
It's probably just me, but the first few words of the event description are particularly badly written:
The Chiller 24 is a true test of man and machine as people race for 24 hours around these beautiful and remote northern trails.
'Man and machine'? - do women not do these events too?
'Remote northern trails' - Newcastleton is 5 hours south for me.
I think it is just you, nothing wrong with any of that.
Perhaps, but referring to a race in the very south of Scotland as northern doesn’t make sense.

With good fitness, and more importantly the right mindset, you could definitely do it. Winning it would be somewhat less likely but completing it and getting a feel for what it's all about would be an achievable goal
Kielder is in England and the times I've done it (come first in mixed pairs twice) it was all south of the border.
@andrewh it's doable, just keep eating and keep going. Most folk will stop between 1am and 4am some to never start again. It's a mental game. I've solo'd a few and that was about having things accessible for obvious repairs and if sloppy the ability to rinse the drivetrain also easy access to food. I did take away boxes of cooked pasta and flasks of soup to pour over. Did gels in the early days but although quicker it probably saved 15mins in 24hrs.
Chiller is different as it's 24 hours not the usual 24+1lap
Apologies this years chiller is newcastleton so almost as far south as you can get. The route would be pretty armoured can't see it being muddy unless the timing line is down at the Rock. Which could have a wet muddy section.

Jeez, I do think a lack of advertising is helping to kill these events.
I've done the last 6 twentyfour12 events and I didn't know this was on and after checking nor did any of my mates. Great course, pretty long way to go and bad weather too often unfortunately. Why didn't I get an email to give me a heads up?
