My son wants a FF helmet, after spectating at Farmer John's he has decided that that's for him so some protective gear is inbound for his birthday!

However I am having trouble finding a helmet. A 54cm head seems to put him out of youth helmets and into XS adult sizes (what is "youth" anyway? He's just turning 7!) but I can't find anything suitable, it either seems to be full-on DH rated stuff starting at £80, or cheap rubbish with removable chinguards and a bunch of reviews saying "it's a bit flimsy". I don't have anything against removable chinguards per se, just flimsy ones!

The only thing that maybe seems in the right range is the 7iDP M1 (like wot I have) but that's out of stock everywhere. Cheaper is better so long as it's not rubbish, it's not like he's doing anything too extreme (yet).

Any ideas?

Aaand of course I immediately find this, which might work but has a couple of "flimsy" reviews. Or maybe this, but probably too big. Hmm 🤔

Have a look at the 661 Reset full face. They always seems to be discounted nicely somewhere.

The local BMX racetrack have a stock of lazer helmets which I've used as has my child. Another parent rates the 100% helmets.

I am also in the boat that I need to pick one up for my child, I just wish shops locally would have stock and child would stop growing!

Good shout, there seems to be a bunch on ebay for under £50. In eye-wateringly violent colours too, he'll love them 😆

Annoyingly 54 seems to the exact point between XS and S sizes in any brand. I guess S is more likely to be better. We'll see.

My son has a head around that size and currently wears an XS O’Neal Backflip full face for BMX (and when he feels like it).

Not too heavy, the shell isn’t massive and it has a Fidlock buckle as well.

At that age I think the weight of the helmet is also important (but fit is most important).  It can be a lot of weight hanging off neck muscles that aren't yet fully developed.  It's not cheap but I had my son in an IXS Trigger Full face at that age.  It's also one of the only full faces with a ratchet and so can be a bit more adjustable than most.
