Hi guys,
I just thought I pick your brains on this one. We just started cycling around quite recently with my 9 months old daughter who is in a rear mounted child seat on my hard tail mtb. There are some really cool cycling routes close by, however they do have a fair few cattle grids across them. I was wondering what people do. At the moment I get off, lift the bike up with my daughter in the seat and walk through the grid. Then back on the bike off we go.
Do you guys ride through them? Do you ride through them after the child is a certain age?
Thanks,
Gabs
Cattlegrid as in metal bars in the road? Just rids them. That's with a Hamax seat suspended on the flexy bars. Son thinks stuff like that is hilarious.
I think i would walk them until you are sure she's not getting her head bounced around about 12-15 months they are much more robust. By 2yrs they are giving directions on speed and direxion
At 9 months their necks are pretty flimsy - especially if they've got a helmet to support to. I'd be v gentle with your riding until she's stronger - my daughter was on a WeeRide from about a year and seeing her head bounce around in front of me definitely changed how I ride!
She's 2.5 now and loves a bike ride - gave me a fright recently when she was holding the bars and I said "good steering" at which point she actually did some steering! AARGHHHH toddler actuated slalom!!!
Just ride faster or bunny hop the grid.
