[Closed] Chicksands - following the painted arrows

I usually just have a bimble round Chicksands, but I made an effort to try and follow the red coloured arrows painted on the trees the other day (sometimes using the yellow ones where the reds just disappeared). I seemed to lose them and pick them up at varying intervals. At one point I was sure I was following the arrows up a climb, but there also seemed to be red arrows pointing down the climb in the opposite direction.

I know there hasn't been any official trail route around Chicksands for some time, but do these painted red/yellow arrows link up and actually make a circuit?

It's been a few years since I went to Chicksands but I am aware the woods are used by other organisations for activities other than mountain biking so you may have found yourself following different markers set out for a different purpose.

I must admit to not having a huge amount of experience or knowledge to compare it to. For me it's great, but it only takes me 15 mins to ride there (so that's the thing that makes it great!).

It's not a massive area, but there's little trails going off all over the place, you can just make it up as you go along. Unfortunately none of the downs are long, you can still have some fun.

RiD - Yes, I know they do orienteering and a XC running race is hosted in there. I'm guessing the arrows aren't there for orienteering! But I did wonder if they were markers for the XC race.

I went earlier this year and tried to follow the arrows, but had same experience as you - sometimes they seemed to disappear, other times I thought I was following them only to come across arrows pointing in the opposite direction.

In the end we gave up and just did our own thing - it's not really a big enough area to get lost.
