Hi folks, once again looking to tap in to your hive mind.
I recently came off and banged my chest which has bruised / cracked a rib, and am wondering if there is something I can wear that won't be too heavy for a non gnarly trail rider who does long rides. Â
I also tend to run hot so am looking for something quite breathable.Â
Or am I just going to have to accept that once in 100 rides I'm going to be unlucky and fall off and bang my chest?Â
Thanks in advance for your help.
If it helps I am 6'3 so I think the endura mt500 d30 might just be a bit small for me.
Chest protector is a really tough gig tbh, ribs etc are usually a momentum injury- we get hurt by our speed and bodyweight, more than by the thing we hit. Reducing that force by a useful amount is really hard to do, without being really bulky, it's like trying to be a thin cushion. But at the same time the rare "stabby" injuries are also really hard to protect against while having venting.
We tend to be a bit led by motocross here but moto roost guards are mostly to protect you from stones fired at you by the bike in front... The Endura looks about as smart as it gets but realistically it's just going to have a really hard job preventing the sort of injury you just took. I'd never say "don't wear protection" but, just be realistic, it might have made no difference.Â
Yeah I'm stuck between thinking
a) it's the one accident I've had in like 200odd hours on the bike, was on a flat cycle path where I hit my handlebar on a bollard (the sign stuck out at the top of the bollard in my defense) and I was on the way home thinking about lunch after 2 hours in the saddle lol. Â
AndÂ
b) I'm getting to the point where 2 hours at least rides are the norm so will it become more of an issue? And if so should I be wearing more protection, I have knee and elbow pads already.
