Any one on here doing it, thinking of doing the 67 miler also not done a Sportive before and the most miles I have done this year is a couple of 30milers, apart from Mow cop Hill 😯 how hilly is the course.
I'm in a similar boat to you. I've barely ridden in the last few years but with 4 weeks to go entered the 67 mile route (and dragged a couple of mates in too).
The kiltotogo site has a route profile (route profile
I'm working on the basis of being able to cycle 30 miles with little difficulty and then the second half looks pretty down-hill / flat so I'll just be trying to hang on at a steady pace.
I did it last year. It's a nice course and apart from Mow Cop and one other big climb it's pretty flat/gently undulating. Mow Cop comes in at about 15 miles so in theory you're nicely warmed up but not too tired. In practice, Mow Cop is usually jammed solid with cyclists veering wildly all over the road, falling off sideways, stopping/dismounting in the middle of the road. All very entertaining.
The worst thing last year was the persistent headwind right down the back of the course - I spent about 30 miles on the front towing a friend along (she was wrecked by that point due to having too many gels and feeling sick).
Just set off steady and you'll get round it. Cheshire is pretty flat, I do most of that route on my roadie SS quite regularly (I go up the other way to Mow Cop, there's a ridge road comes in from the South which is doable on SS).
I have just entered so better get some miles in, just as well I have a 1.6 hill on my doorstep to repeatedly ride up and down before I do a loop, looking forward to this although don't relish the idea of a headwind had to tackle one on a Snowdon loop Charity ride coming into Lanberis mot what you need before Pen Y Pass.
How long does it take to do with average fitness.
Does anyone know if you have to have a road bike to enter? Can I ride my MTB with slicks?
Planning on doing the hundred miler on my singlespeed.
I think I may die, still faint heart never won fair lady.

Nutter! 😆
I fancy it, did the Cat & Fiddle sportive last year and that was great despite the crappy weather

SS road bike or MTB? If it's a road bike then the only problem will be Mow Cop - I'd go up it on this road rather than the steep bit labelled Old Man of Mow.
If it's an SS MTB then you're certifiably insane. 😉
Did the 100 miler last year- average fitness... and 6 weeks after a hernia op... was tough but ok..... was great being swept along at 25mph in the middle of a large group... 🙂
Mow Cop is a lot of hype. It's not easy... but I've dragged my ass up harder climbs on the SS MTB.....
If it's raining I'll be on my fixie, if not I'll be on the Guvnor, that's the plan anyway.
That plus the fact I don't own a road bike with gears so my choice is limited.
