Merlin?
Have they sorted that issue with the left hand shifter on the latest model?
there are some places on ebay doing proper Shimano stuff, direct from China. I got a replacement 105 5600 left hand one, which is the updated one that sorts the internal problem. Original ones were triple, updated ones are double.
Mine came in about a week, original Shimano packaging and manuals, and well lower in price than anywhere else
Are all Shimano STIS shifters able to be set up to work for tripples?
no, some are double specific. There was a problem with old 105's (5600 series) in that they were set up for triple, but coming on bikes with double chainsets.......they tend to break inside eventually. Shimano did a change and latter 5600's are double specific
Ah is the issue only on triples? I was after a double anyway.
yes, any double specific one will be fine. best go for same model number as you have, if you are replacing one though. sometimes pull ratios for front mechs can vary
Are they covered by warranty? I had one break
teetosugars - if you peel back the hood the model number is undeneath on the plastic bit normally. Those are newer than 5600, maybe 5700 ?
I've heard a few things regarding Warranty, sometimes the shop replaces FOC, sometimes they charge, dosnt seem to be a full recall or anything.
There new for a CX build.
teetosugars - yep. they be 5700
much nicer shape than the 5600, bar cable routing and compatible with the Shimano enhanced dual pivot SLR brakes.

Great Stuff..
So, these are set up as a double at the minute... can it be changed to run a tripple??

No 105 5700 is chainring number specific.

Knackers.. 😳
Cheers tho'..
Guess its time for an XT Double then..

I could be wrong but won't you struggle with this?
Shimano changed the front mech cable pull ratio with 5700 so you need a 105 5700 (or above) road front mech to work with the STIs, but this will be the wrong shape for the smaller mountian bike chainset as they are designed to work with 50T or 53T outer chainrings.

I've no idea if I'm honest...
Was just going to see what would work.
I don't really want to buy a new L/H tripple, unless I have too.. I can't seem to find anywhere selling L/RH seperately??
Thanks for the heads up tho'- truly appreciated.. 🙂
Bike-discount.de seem to have them.
Keep an eye on Merlin
