Cheapest 1 x group set/gearset with cluch mech.

I've got the Badger Divide later this year and was thinking Stooge would be perfect for it, just one slight problem, no gear. I could just borrow gears from another bike but I'm too lazy to them have to move them twice.

Is it really just Deore? Nothing cheaper that is in stock somewhere.

Microshift? Advent X has a review on here somewhere, rated highly.
Unsure about stock, maybe European sites?

See if you can find some 2nd hand 10speed Shimano stuff.

I gave away my old Soul which had a 10 speed Saint shifter, SLX mech and Deore cassette. Would have been perfect on the Stooge 😬

I'll take a look at the Microshift stuff, struggling to see a full gear-set but looks a decent price to buy seperately.

I ended up digging out an unused 11 speed mech & shifter and paired it with a Sunrace cassette and SRAM ring for my HT - just couldn't find a full AdventX set-up in stock anywhere.

Microshift Advent X 10 speed is about £160 for the posher cassette, the shifter with the rubber pad and the mech plus a SRAM 10 speed chain. It's about £25 cheaper if you choose the cheaper shifter and cassette. Cassette goes all the way to 48!

Just fitted it yesterday to my Jack Flash rigid gravel runabout. It's back in stock in most of the usual suspects.

That looks 'reet good for the money. 42 tooth cassette, clutch mech, and shifter for 80 quid. I kind of wish I'd seen that before equipping my recent build with a random selection of 1x12 bits!

I've got an old XT 9 speed shifter, can this be paired up with a 9 speed Microshift clutch mech and wide range cassette? 🤔

Apparently not. The marketing spiel seems to indicate they in not cross compatible with either Shimano or SRAM pull ratios.
I have the 9sp casette on a 1x9 SRAM set up and it works ok, but skips on the 18T gear (6th) under pressure. Not sure if this is due to casette wear, frame flex or hanger alignment (with a cheap extender).

On a related topic, what the most number of speeds I can fit to a 135QR rear wheel? Currently 9 speed.

Any reason why 10 speed would no longer fit 135 QR?

Deore 10 speed?
I run an old SLX crank up front with a narrow wide.
Then a new Deore rear mech with a 11-42 cassette.
Guess you could get an older rear mech, though it might not work with the 42t or 46t cassettes.

A 135 QR will definitely accept a 8, 9 or 10 speed cassette.
I thought the Shimano 11 speed MTB cassettes fit too .. am I right?

I run 11 speed on a 135 QR wheel , 11-46T , deore rear mech, no issues

I wouldn't look any further than Deore 1x11 11-51t

Get a sunrace 11-51 cassette if you want to save a couple of quid

You can fit an 11-50 12 speed cassette to any 8spd+ HG freehub. SRAM and sunrace make them.

I'd rather a sunrace cassette but this is great price

Just built a bike with Box two 11 speed as I had a oneupped 10-46 xt cassette spare.
Mech seems pretty good but the shifter has about 20degrees of free throw before it starts pulling cable. Box are aware its inherent in all their shifters.

Two options from me:
1. deore m6000 mech + cassette + shifter for 10 speed 11-42
2. deore m6000 mech + 11 speed SLX cassette (or sunrace) + 11 speed SLX/XT shifter

Both work well, look for the m6000 mech second hand, should be easy to buy since it was in many OEM specs.

The genuine shimano 11-51 cassette is £69 at bikester. I bought one a while back. Came in days. Might have been a fiver shipping. Might have been free can’t remember.

Apart from microspline being only on boost hubs you can have any number of gears in any axle width as it’s the free hub that decides what cassette you use, and as above nx 12 speed is hg fitting. I presume xd freehub are available for non boost hubs as xd predates boost doesn’t it?

I'm curious about mech range; I've got a SRAM X1 10 speed mech and shifter on one bike and a oneuped second hand Saint mech and shifter on the other (Thanks to a very kind seller on this forum) - they both work really well and I've no desire to go 11 or 12 speed, especially as 10 speed seems to last significantly longer. If the Advent 11-48 works with these mechs I'll be stocking up, and replacing the mechs and shifters as they wear.
