Hi all,
Has anybody had any experience of a cheap turbo trainer? If so are they good enough, rather than spending stupid amounts of money?
I'm looking at getting one to use over winter to keep the fitness levels up, not looking for anything to fancy. Never bin keen on riding in the dark as the roads where I live are very busy and some are poorly lit.
I've seen this on ebay, but like I said, are they up to the job

I have a fluid resistance one, its excellent and very quiet, not sure on the magnetic versions though.
Bought a Tacx Satori magnetic one from Decathlon when they were on offer for £125. It is very good, but I can't comment on noise per se because I use it in the garage. I think for most people's intended use, they are much of a muchness. Buy used if you can. they aren't worn out by usage 😉 . Magnetic may be a little more reliable, fluid quieter, fan noisy and wheel-less pricey.
I got a wind resitance one for about 70quid and it's very very VERY noisy. Factor in you need ear plugs when costing it out.
Bought a stupidly expensive one now and prefer that. There is probably a sensible middle option.
Riding on the turbo takes a certain amount of mental adjustment. Big fan and TV/computer are a must.
I bought a Cheap, fan resistance one a while back to use for indoor winter training, the trouble wasn't the noise from the resistance fans (Which were pretty crap TBH, but the noise from the tyre roller/bearings...
I couldn't really find an effective way to damp the racket down, It would have woken up the kids, and stopped the Missus watching reality TV, So now it lives in the garage not being used...
I'm tempted to try rollers, but again it's more spend on something I don't really "Need"...
