Hi all, I'm fed up of punctures on my commuter (on 35mm Kenda SB8s) so I need something tubeless ready. I ride a mix of gravelly and muddy towpath and road so I basically need a lightly treaded CX tyre, which I think is called a gravel tyre these days. Similar tread to the SB8 would be ideal.
My searching has suggested tubeless cx tyres are relatively new and pricey at £35+ each. The Bontrager CX0 TLR looks great, but too expensive. Anyone have any cheaper suggestions?
Specialised Triggers? I don't think they're that expensive & tubeless a treat.
They look great, but £35 each for the Trigger 2Bliss model.
Not sure what I paid, old mate did us a deal.
Schwable Marathorn with a tube. or Land Cruisers which are better off-road.
Most of the tubeless ready tyres I've seen are £30+
I'm not using tubeless specific tyres though I am using Stans Arch Ex rims which work really well. Currently on Nobby Nics in 35mm
😉Hi all, [s]I'm [/s] I was fed up of punctures on my commuter [s](on 35mm Kenda SB8s)[/s] so I [s]need something tubeless ready[/s] put some Stans fluid in the tubes.
Have you tried tubelessing the SB8s? Can't say I thought they were particularly puncture prone myself, and they sound a good fit for your commute.
Stans in tubes is nowhere near as good as full tubeless (I tried it before going tubeless).
I can't believe you're even considering using the same tyres for gravel AND muddy CX bits.
Sorry I have nothing useful to add
I think he means a muddy tow path on his commute. Not muddy CX. It's a bit difficult to avoid mud all together when riding at this time of year, even on the country roads!
I suggested touring style tyres because cx tyres are not generally know for puncture protection.
One thought, you are putting the correct size tube in? A road tube fits and works, but you tend to get more punctures.
Serious suggestion, have you tried tubelessing what you have on currently? Should seal thorn type punctures OK (although they will seal better in a tubeless ready or UST tyre)
A lot of people recommend not running the SB8s tubeless due to a very thin carcass. I don't fancy it going bang on me! Although this article seems to say they work: http://www.cxmagazine.com/going-tubeless-cyclocross-tires-racing-recommendations
Traildog - touring tyres are an option, but I'd rather go tubeless if possible. I am running the correct inner tube in the back (patched it twice in 3 commutes now!) the front does have a road tube in though.
The Schwalbe CX comps look a good tread, but not sure on tubeless compatibility.
Regarding stans in an inner tube - I guess special tubes with a removable valve core are needed?
Right, going to give the rear SB8 a go tubeless tonight as it has gone down again today!
I've been running Schwalbe CX comps tubeless for almost 2 years now. They go up fine but you need a little more sealant because it leaks out of the sidewalls for the first few days. Once sealed i add a little more through the valve stem. They last around 1000 miles on the rear and 2000 on the front with a mixture of road and offroad riding. I've never had any major issues with them and because they have a kevlar belt they seem to defend well against cuts from glass. I go back to these because they grip well and can be had for a tenner each.

Really? seen Ron and Ralph in that size but not a Nic.
