Been looking for something like 2nd hand crests to give me 26" C456 a new lease of life (running 717s which are a bit narrow!) but just wondering what is out there in sales that might be similar price and without any nasty surprises.

I don't have a problem with SS stuff (I accept it's not Hope, Easton etc) so was looking at their own Tactic AM rims (23mm internal) for £147 or the Ryde trail rims (25mm internal) for £210. On paper they should be the same weight but I am wondering on the real weights of the rims.

Light v width v cost (400g/rim, >23mm internal, £150ish prefered)

any other suggestions?

I am in this exact boat.

I have a C456 with XC717's, i'm looking for a tougher/wider rim.

Ideally Id like a 2nd hand sent of hope pro2's on some thicker Mavic or DT Swiss, but patience is wearing thin to wait for that bargain...

so was looking at their own Tactic AM rims (23mm internal)

I've got a set of 27.5 Tactic rims on Switch hubs and I'm sure the front was 730g and the rear was 830g. Running them on a 45650b and they've been perfect. Dead easy to get inflated tubeless.

Cheers bob, am hovering over buy on the Tactics tbh. Those weights sound okay

Plyphon - couple of Hope/old Flow combos on classifies at the moment but not a lot coming up. Old flow is the same internal as the SS tactic but heavier so it's a no brainer really. If you want really wide then the Ryde Enduros look very good, 29 internal width and 440g per rim apparently. £210 for a set built which is pretty good. £147 for the Tactics is very tempting though.

I've got a set of LB 30mm inner carbons for my 29er ready to be built up for my 29er so thinking 23mm is a bit narrow, but coming from my 717s that still an extra 6mm which is a lot.

Next bike will be 650b so will probably go carbon for that but that will have to wait a year or so.

yeah that is what triggered this. £210 and £147 are the prices with the discount applied. Trigger finger is getting twitchy over the 'buy' button on the Tactics tbh. QR or 9/10mm QR? hmm. Shimano internal QR v crappy external. Not sure which will end up stiffer tbh. t's a shame Shimano internal QR 10mm axles (rear) are so expensive.

The weights of the Ryde rims seem really good- the XC weighs nowt! Actually tempted to get a set in this sale for the commuter

TBH if I wanted a set of 26er wheels, I'd buy used, it's such a buyer's market- cleared out a couple of sets myself for half what they were worth last year and bought some just for the hubs for silly money.

Got the tactics in 29er form.

Very nice light rims, would be good trail wheels in 26in.

I am wondering if they are made by (Alex and wtb are usual suspects). Just speculation but this looks similar and has same inner width and similar weight: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/wtb-kom-i-23-tcs-rim-2014/rp-prod107301 If it is then that's not a bad thing.
