You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've noticed these on Planet X, I have no qualms about cheap chains in general but did wonder at what point the material they're made of becomes less corrosion resistant. I couldn't find any info anywhere on whether the PC1110 was plated, stainless, etc.
I remember the stock chain on my SRAM GX equipped bike a year or two ago erupted into bright orange rust almost overnight...

I've used the Sram PC 1110 chain for a few years now. I always tend to give the bike a rinse after riding and dry the chain on a rag, then wipe over with either an oily rag or apply lube. you will get a bit of Orange if you don't do this and leave it a couple of days, as I'm sure you would with almost any chain. They seem to last ok, but at less than a tenner they get swapped out at .5 anyway and 150+km a week on the MTB in current conditions will surely wear whatever you have fitted.
I think they are a Nickle plate as they are quite Grey/dull
They’re fine functionally- I found them to rust if left alone for more than about 2 minutes after cleaning. Anecdotally I don’t think they last as long as the next model up.
I've used them for a year or so (I bought three before I read the article below). They're fine. They don't seem to rust too much, shift fine. But there's a big but...
Anecdotally I don’t think they last as long as the next model up.
This. Even to the point, where (apparently) using a more expensive chain will save money in chains alone (chain cost vs miles), never mind the knock-on effects of increased wear on your cassette and other bits. At least at RRP. More so for 12 Spd than 11 speed. 12spd XO1 is the sweet spot, at least according to here:

I have found that bottom end chains from both Shimano and Sram rust quite quickly vs more expensive ones. I think my Bitd came with the one up from the one you list and still got some surface rust. I’d try to find the X1 11 speed chain as that didn’t rust at all and lasted ages - think last time I got one it was £25 from Tweeks cycles but that was some time ago.
Now gone all bling on chains and have an XX1 oil slick for 12 speed and a gold KMC light chain with cutouts in the links 😎
Anecdotally I don’t think they last as long as the next model up.
Yeah. I'll add my experience to this - I've used (and still have in the spares) quite a few of these. Agree - they do seem to wear quite quickly. Not a disaster as they're so (relatively) cheap, but you do have to keep an eye on them. Not enough to make me change yet, but I thinking of getting a bit more scientific with them (i.e. logging them on Strava) to see just how quick.
Me too on the rust thing. Being very tight I have had a few but they rust quickly in the current monsoon. None have actually broken but I have just bought an X11 just in case.
Interesting. I've used a few, but haven't used any other 11speed chains to compare (always bought them because they're the cheapest, figuring they might be a bit heavier but last just as long). I've been surprised at how quickly they're wearing, but only because I'm paying more attention to them as I'm trying to see how well Putoline's working out - see the last couple of posts in this thread: https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/putoline-question-3/page/12/

Awesome, that link above refers to a YBN chain as third most durable which Planet X appear to be doing for £25.
Think I'll give it a shot, it's for Putoline purposes and I'm suspicious of how well Shimano Siltec chains hold on to wax...
