What should I buy?

Ideally to attach to the inch or so of dropper that sticks out of my frame. Or possibly to saddle rails if such a thing is a thing.

Cue a million different answers 🙂
I've got a little Moon thing and a See.Sense, but this looks good

MagicShine - clips onto saddle rails, unobtrusive, lasts ages.

Garmin Varia - big and very useful if you road ride. Bigger and needs to go on seatpost. Will fit on dropper.

Another vote for the Moon copy from Lidl/Aldi. It's what I run as a backup at the bottom of the dropper, with the Exposure Trace - R, as the main light.

A Moon Nebula arrived today. Needed another light with a saddle rail mount with the option of mounting on my waist pack. This one nails it. Build quality is good

Also has the standard post mount. The variety of mounts (and their inclusion) was a big deciding factor

I bought one of these...

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/bookman-block-rear-light

For £6.99 to make up free postage a few weeks back.

Very small, fits on a dropper post collar just right, surprisingly bright (defo brighter than the stated 18 lumens), charge lasts for ages, and it even survived going through the wash in my shorts pocket!

Using a Moon Shield-X which comes with a seatpost clamp but others are available - Seat rail mount, helmet etc

Moon Comet, Helix and Sirius in our household.

The Comet is three years old and used for daily commute and nightly Deliveroo work - and it's finally getting less battery life.

My Sirius is VERY bright, and while slightly confusing button wise, has some great features like brake light and auto off.

Seat rail mount, helmet etc

This is true - the slightly more expensive moons come with a plethora of mounts, not just elastic band

Garmin Varia

Is that really your idea of Cheap? Or did you just choose to ignore the word?

Just bought a Moon Shield X from JE James for £20 (circa £40+ RRP)

Ridiculously bright on certain settings and well made (aluminium body)

Comes with bag clip, seatpost mount and saddle rail mount

Thanks all. In true STW style I've read everyone's recommendations and am now going to buy something else. I was actually looking at the Moon ones when this popped up as a suggestion: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROCKBROS-Bicycle-Waterproof-Bright-Flashing/dp/B09Y1XDPP6

So I'm going to buy that (not from Amazon though).
