I crashed my stumpy commuter last year and want to rebuild some of the bits into a bike that will serve both as a commuter and a jumping and hopping around town bike. I'm thinking rigid forks though the recons from the stumpy might be salvagable.
Ideally it would be like a 26" trials bike that I can commute on every day... ideas? Has to be cheap. Had been thinking Inbred...
How far are you commuting?
I really wouldn't have thought something suitable for trials would be the same kind of thing you'd want for commuting, unless it's only a very short commute.
I once 'impulse bought' a commencal maxmax with exactly this in mind. I've never actually got round to building it up though so it sits in the shed until I can admit to myself that I have to sell it or use it 😳 That'd be ideal for a 26" street bike on a budget- I liked the idea that it had swappable dropouts too for ss/geared. Having said that, if you're very tall any jumpy/trialsy things will be a pain for any significant distance.
I am very tall! Its currently only a short city commute - my record is about 6 minutes the downhill way, though last time I did it I ended up in hospital so something that slows me down would be good 😉
maxmax looks about right - though I only want a frame and maybe rigid forks though as have spare wheels and BB etc.
I'm not so fussed about full trials finctionality or full commuting functionality - I more want to be able to get to work and hop around the town on it as well, to hone up the old skills a bit and have some fun.

[blatant plug] If you're not looking for something brand new (but "as new") feel free to get in touch and make me an offer 😉 [/blatant plug]
You can do a whole lot worse that the Brand-X jump frames on CRC if you're looking at new stuff.
Edit, add on a cheap pair of Marz DJ forks and you would have a rather nice urban set up for not much cash.
I was going to suggest a trailstar, although i have the slightly lighter and less agressive kinesis decade which i use for just this purpose and it works for mee. I had rigid forks on it but prefer the suspension so swapped back. To be fair though you could probably get away with a cheap sliding drop out on-one frame, although not really trialsy you can still chuck them around...and they're cheap.
I have a Planet X Jack Flash if you are interested. Will take what lever you throw at it 🙂
Inbred 456?
Cheers folks, will have a look around.
