Was looking at getting a boardman tt team for bike to work, which would cost me around 500 quid after tax deduction. Seems a good deal but as I'll need to change the crank and bb (to run my power meter), and I already have carbon aero wheels, I was thinking it may not be much more expensive to build one up from parts.

I reckon I can get all the components for less than 250 quid new, another 100 for the cockpit.. Leaving me requiring a budget frame for around 350 quid. The go to option is a planet x stealth, which is around that or cheaper if I can get one second hand (although I haven't seen many come up frame only), but is there anything direct from the far East that is a better bet?

Apparently the PlanetX Stealth is not the most aero of frames. The eBay deng fu frames are about £300 and well made. Ribble is another option. As is Dolan. I personally think frame is not very important. Position is everything and aero super bike frames will only give you about 10-15 Watts. Sadly I now neeeeed those 15 watts to make the gains I need.

Was hoping for a Giant Trinity TT on bike to work. I will even use it to bike to work too. Occasionally.

I had a look at the deng fu frames but they don't have any prices against them. Equivalent on ebay look to be selling for 750 quid ish.

Ribble have a few cheep alu frames, but the carbon ones are all over a grand.

Interesting to know the planet x isn't that aero, but as you say position is everything. Tbf an alu frame would probably be fine and the boardman gets good reviews.. But I'm a tart, and I think tt bikes look so much better when made of carbon!

Exocet 2s grow on trees on ebay and are a well-quoted frame - see them all the time at tests [don't get an exocet 1 - that was a bit of a planet x beta-testing on the consumer base situation]. Bit of ebay watching would get you something there. I had a stealth and thought it was fine, not the prettiest TT bike, but an excellent starter. Was just on a bit of a size boundary so switched to an exocet2.

I've just seen a 2017 cannondale scalpel with a 50% off, so only a grand. The issue is the shop use cycle scheme and I need to source through cycle to work through halfords. I know halfords can source bikes from other shops, but I think the 2 schemes are different. Otherwise that would have been perfect

I have the Boardman on c2w it's plenty fast enough.  Bit of a boneshaker compared to my carbon road bike.  Only thing is suggest is if you want different extension try to get then to sort as its going to be a massive ballache switching to ski bends
