Note the bike forum, so I mean the bars you use to steer your bike.

I'm thinking of going wide - 750 ish. What's a bargain?

Depends on your definition of 'cheap' is but I like the Superstar Descent 780 bars a lot.

They're quite wide so plenty of opportunity to trim down to a width you like.

Why didn't I just go to on-one's site before posting? Bonkers cheap stuff.

I cannot decide how long a stem I want.

Those El-Guapo's are awesome! I fitted them to my XC Merida, still keeping the 90mm step and end bars 8)

I could make the bars lower than they are now, and run the fork longer....

I guess flat is the way to go because the stem currently has all its spacers on top. I can always raise the bars if they are too low but can't go the other way as easily.

I paired the el guapo with a 50mm On-One Ultralight CNC Stem, 30 quid total, arrived next day. Such a cheap way to try out the short and wide stem/bar combo.

What did you go from, and what did you think?

changed from 680mm bars, and 80mm stem. Only had one decent ride so far, but already feel like i'm in a better position on the bike, especially when descending. For £30 you can't go wrong, I'd say you'd easily get £20 back selling here if you don't like it.

Paligap have a outlet store on ebay which has the catchy name of 'paligapoutletstore'.

Amongst other things they are selling some Ritchey handlebars off at a discounted price I got a pair of the Ritchey WCS trail 2X bars for £23.99(£58 on CRC), they have got a few others including Carbon bars.

I know it will improve descending, but I'm more concerned about what it'll do to the climbing and long distance comfort.

I just move my hands inwards when climbing - I have 750mm Kinesis R750 carbon bars & 55mm Easton haven stem.

I've got a set of anchos and love them. Yes I clip the odd tree but the extra leverage is great when going flat out or slowly picking my way down a techie bit.
