After a wrist injury about 6 weeks ago I've finally got the cast off and will be able to get back out on the road bike in 2 or 3 weeks. I can hold onto the bars ok on the turbo, and squeeze the brake, but as I have no strength in the wrist shifting on a front left road shifter on the winter bike onto the big cog hurts quite a bit.

I have di 2 on the good bike which is always an option but I'm thinking maybe sticking a friction shifter on the end of the bar and using that with my right hand to swap between chainrings.

Any reason why that won't work? It's 10 speed tiagra. Can't be assed spending much so any budget recomendations would be useful.

plenty of 10 speed TT options available. Ask nicely and I can lend you one - I have a couple of spares to my shame (upgraded two bikes to Di2/eTAP~).

Or just leave it in the small ring - but... compact I expect for Tiagra.

Not sure I'm going to be able to keep it in one ring, the small is too small, the large would ruin me on the climbs

I did consider putting on a 42 tooth that I had reserved for the gravel bike but it's probably easier sticking on a bar end shifter.

I may have an old deore xt thumbie I could bodge on somehow as a short term fix..

If that doesn't work I may come back to you TiRed!

I've got 10 speed Tiagra on the turbo bike so have just sat on that and tried changing up on the front ring by pulling it over with my right hand and it seems very easy. You can lean your forearm on the bars to give a bit of stability. I'd take it out in the car park at work here and try but it's pissing down!

If the wrist is likely to improve with time and it's only a short term thing it might be the easy option. I've assume from your post that  you have no issue changing down with your left hand.

I've got a front Dura Ace bar end shifter (bought the set off here a while ago for a project which never happened, might still use the rear).

I use the right hand on the turbo to change at the moment, but not convinced doing that on the road is a wise move.

Monk, let me see what I have in my spares box but that sounds a fair price so let me come back to you. It's just a short term option to get me outside. I plan to put the shifter on the right so right hand does all the shifting
