You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Morning Guys,
I have a quandary……
I've been chasing miles, I want to hold about 80 - 100 miles a week
I used to do more when racing in Europe, so it's only really 3 rides a week or 3 days commuting.
I've been lapse the early part of the year, only averaging 35 miles a week Jan + Feb, but now I find i'm not really enjoying the bike - but then beating myself up that I've done no miles this week - did 90 odd last week and 85 week before - but pedal churning is getting boring.
The miles are good for the legs, I go to a bike park/ trail centre and fly round (I did mention I like to race!!) but how do I keep it fun??
I've explored new routes, done my usual loops backwards, tried having music on etc - never really been one to ride with people, not that I can at the minute!
Or am I just tired at the minute and overthinking it all!!!
Hope you're all well
used to be me,
biggest thing was stopping , doing something else for a bit.
it doesnt go away , If you have ridden for a long time you never forget.
I had 5 months off after burning my foot and it was good , re energised my want to ride.
Dropped about 8 watts off my FTP over that time - Ill live.
I do this occasionally - set myself a target and try to complete it. Last year it was to average 150km/week. Not massive but enough to give me an incentive to get out when the weather maybe wasn't ideal. Having a wide choice of routes helps. My local road options are limited so a lot of it was discovering new trails or linking up known ones in different ways. I also use a Strava add-on called Veloviewer and its Explorer function. It just gives another way of looking at where you've ridden and pointing out where you haven't.
Edit; in order to have some interim targets I also set a target of 1x50km ride per week and 1x100km ride per month.
I've been off it a week and doing more weights sessions, but I feel like i'm cheating myself not wanting to ride.
I've the gearbox to rebuild on the enduro bike, so a few trips on the motorbike might help.
I did 2500 miles last year, and want to do the same/ beat that this year.
I also keep thinking of trying to build a local club - somewhere MTBers can meet, chat, swap routes and plan ride outs - like a Thursday night a week, guess I just need to start that one!
I'll see how this week goes, just to break the day i'm thinking of a ride today, but I know i'll just get on it and pedal, kind of feel I need to enjoy it more!!
All the best
TBF you've not picked the best year to do this (certainly not the club idea). I'd already decided I wasn't chasing miles this year anyway.
Somebody call...? Oh, as you were...
Boblo (AKA Miles in real life...)
Nothing motivates me like a race or event in the future to focus on. I set myself a goal of 5k miles this year (about 100 a week). It was going ok at the start of year, then all the events and races I was working towards got cancelled. Luckily the weather has been good and I have an extra day a week to ride since being dropped to a four day week so im actually doing about 140 miles a week. I can see the novelty of that wearing off soon, and without anything to aim for its its going to be tough to keep motivated for sure.
Good Call @Trailwagger
With the events been cancelled, it's probably scratched the motivation, didn't put that together
Just wallowed in my 'woe is me'
though I'm trying to talk the wife in to understanding why I need a new superbike, so I won't be eluding to this for a month or two with her!!
Club idea stems from thinking we need a local shop with people in there that ride, but with the online market there's no way I'd open another bike shop - hence the club idea.
I have a unit I could turn in to a MTB crash site for locals to rock up, repair bikes meet riders and offer support etc, summer ain't here yet, so you never know!!
Have a good day
I aim for 100 a week. Way behind after sciatica at the start of the year.
Under lockdown, four or five 20-30 mile rides hits it quite nicely without breaking the spirit of the rules I feel.
Unless you're a paid up pro, if you'er not enjoying it knock it on the head and do something you do enjoy instead. Life's too short and hard to waste free time doing stuff you don't need to. If you miss it, you'll be back.
