I have an £800 Halfords cycle to work voucher burning a hole in my pocket and I'm looking at the new Charge Cooker 1. I haven't bought a new bike in years so this is my first foray into 1x and funny sized wheels. Cooker 1 looks like it would be a good match for my riding, could keep a spare pair of 29" wheels for it and/or upgrade to a bouncy fork.
Before I [i]pull the trigger[/i] is there anything else at the £800 mark that I should be considering?
Ordered one yesterday for my winter bike use,sounds hard work to change to Suspension fork from what i've heard but rigid suits me for winter use and hoping the big tyres act as a bit suspension.
What are the issues with upgrading the fork? I'd assumed the frame is the same as the bikes further up the range which come with suspension, no?
Me too but Saw this on Charge Bikes Facebook page in reply to a question re forks.... The rigid fork is not suspension corrected so you'll need to buy a 1 1/8" 27 plus fork to get good clearance, drop the travel to 60mm max and then buy a bolt thru hub as the 0 front wheel is QR only.
I think that's a difference between the 0 (singlespeed) and the 1 then. The spec on the charge website definitely says the fork is suspension corrected and the frame has a tapered headtube. Still leaves the issue of the hub but that's not a huge deal.
Yep although you would thought they would be the same as the 2,3 etc but looks like not.
Can def run 29er wheels with 2.0" tyres though which is handy for i have have a 29er too.
