After years of rockshox pikes and easily changeable travel i am looking at upping a 140mm fox 36 grip2 to 150mm. Is this possible? Simple air shaft swap a la rockshox or more complex?

Air shaft swap, yes.
I dropped mine to 140mm. Check eBay, as lots of people change the travel when new and then have unused air shafts to sell on.
Depends what year ... (or perhaps not on Grip 2).
My 2015-2017 36 FIT4 you just remove a spacer and move a bolt on the damper rebound shaft.
120-150 is one airshaft and 160-180 a different one.
If it's EVOL, it's an air shaft swap.
